To be fair, the politics of it is as much fun as the music itself. We all know it happens and wait for the inevitable Greece/Cyprus stitch up but that’s Eurovision and it would be a poorer place if it didn’t happen.

Great thing now is that the new scoring system places less emphasis on the jury votes and the public get a look in which we saw with great effect yesterday. The official juries only scored Ukraine an average amount of points basing it presumably on the quality of the song itself but the general public voted with sentiment and gave them a record amount or points leading to them winning.

The public also liked the batst mental songs that scored poorly by the juries like Serbia and Moldova and that means that there’s a solid place for mentalists going forward and that can only be a good thing. A Eurovision filled with ballads would be awful and this new scoring system will help prevent that.

Bring on 2023!
Absolutely spot on.

It's a fun night in watching TV with a few beers. It was a bit different this year because of the support for Ukraine and the UK song doing well.

PPS. How ste was the Australian entry?! Pretentious, campy crap that might have got all the attention 15 years ago, but everyone has moved on now. st song, st singer, st outfit, st staging and st performance. Germany were done coming last to that complete pap.
Ah, but who amongst us would say that they wouldn't appreciate Sheldon Riley's performance acting as an inspiration to other high profile Australians, and in particular that the Australian cricket and rugby teams should take to the field sporting diamante face chains, three inch long fake nails and huge fluffy fake swan feathers in place of the usual cricketing whites or rugby gear? I'm sure Aussie Rules Football would likewise benefit from a similar modern refresh of on-pitch apparel. It might cause a bit of a kerfuffle amongst some more traditional Australian sports fans, but it would cheer up the rest of the world no end.

Camp is fun- I don't file that performance under that category.

It was a song which could've been an offcut from 'The Greatest Showman' alas five years too late.

Going to be controversial here and say the spanish backing dancers (female ones) - especially the one on the left were far better looking than the lead singer. hehe

Can't believe the Spanish entry did so well.

I'd never heard of Sam Ryder until a week or two back, but after last night I went to Youtube to see what he's been up to. WOW - that guy can really sing, and he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously either. He's got some real talent. I really hope that bands he's covered, like Queen for example, give him an opportunity to come on as a guest at a gig or two. Do we think he'll be commercially successful now? I imagine so?

On a side note, he's the absolute spit of one of my neighbours biggrin. Or vice versa. Facial expressions, general attitude, the lot.

You have got to admire their optimism.
I saw a bit on the news, & what it really meant to the Country.
The support from the World & how for a few hours it gave them something to smile about... & forget about the war.

Apparently, Zelenskyy wants to host it in Mariupol. I wonder if Russia will still be banned? eek

If they cannot host it there, my bet is on it being guest hosted here in the UK.

Whilst obviously hosting it in Ukraine would be best, if they do 'guest host' it in the UK I'm sure we'll do a great job of making a big fuss of them. The O2 decked-out in blue and gold, etc.

Obviously, if they can host it then, there will be all that extra revenue that the visitors will bring too.
I’m sure that the Eurovision Committee will provide aid with the financial side of staging it.

So, I heard on the radio this morning that the 'voting irregularities' that led to Martin Österdahl reading out some of the jury votes instead of going to the live feed from certain countries was that they had received intelligence that a Russian hacking team had managed to intercept the video feeds and there was a concern they would attempt to display 'something else'.

The same group had also tried to crash the televoting system in various countries, but the Italian police cybercrime group were monitoring the activities in the background.
