This isn't my usual viewing, but I'll give it a go....
Only got my attention by it's title, an area I moved to in 2018...!

Been watching very little live TV recently but feels like there has been no promotion at all, just sneaked up on the schedule.

Strong cast of TV actors and looking worth following from EP1.

As already said, they've pulled out the big guns for this drama smile

Enjoyed the first episode.

It was hyped up as being the best drama on tv in years.
I'm yet to be convinced

I don't normally watch dramas, but this one I did and I stayed with it to the end.

A decent story spoiled by lazy stereotypes.

The cast is like a who’s who of actors you’ve seen in loads of other stuff but have to Google just to check.

Enjoying it though.

I like the way that we know who the murderer is so early in the series... What interests me is the historic links between families, the tensions/division within, the local police and the Met during the strike onwards.. Spy cops and cover-ups a plenty...

Looking forward to episode 3 on Monday smile

Amazing cast - as said a who’s who of gritty northern drama. All totally believable characters though and a gripping, relevant story.

Aye! Just settling into the rhythm of a fleshed out single crime drama, then boom, fade to black!

My wife spent the whole first episode going ‘oh it’s her from Brookside, and the one from show about the womens football team and the bloke from Brassed Off… he was in Hustle wasn’t he? And what’s she been in before? Oh I remember now… and i recognise him from something… think it’s Casualty…and that woman was in Downton Abbey…’

Then she says ‘the father in law isn’t much older than her, they should have used that other bloke, you know the one…’ she Googles and shows me a photo of Ace Bhatti who I instantly recognise as the usual go-to middle aged generic Asian guy. He then turns up in episode two!

I think the only familiar face missing is Vicky McClure - and she’s actually from Nottingham.

Even so, it’s pretty good. A little different to the usual murder mystery stuff.

It's ... okay

Last nights ending was indeed fun, however the whole bluetooth chekhov's gun has, once again, confirmed that modern stuff is written for simpletons!

+1, plus the usual must haves: lots of staring into space, be it out of a window (perfected by Spender), drinking wine like most folk drink tap water and a suburban street with hardly any cars. I'm just glad the dog was found unharmed!

Re the undercover rozzer, who would go rogue & stay in a godforsaken ex mining village rather than go back to the bright lights & why? It'd be hard enough doing that for a few months let alone a lifetime, what about your own family, friends & home life? A guy turning up in such a tight knit community at that time would stick out like a sore thumb & what would be his cover? They wouldn't stick an undercover officer into a dangerous & skilled job like mining and I can't see them becoming a qualified train/bus/ lorry driver in short time. I rather suspect the spook in question is female & stayed when they met someone, possibly becoming pregnant.

The only possible candidate so far for me would be the train driver's late wife though there's more layers of this onion to be peeled yet..

P.S: Must confess to having a bit of a thing for Joanne Froggatt ever since she was in Life on Mars

I'm really enjoying it so far, I'm fairly local to the area and had family that worked for the NCB during and after the strike. Getting vibes of David Peace's novel GB84 (which doesn't end well for the dog...) which is absolutely brilliant and was once in development with Tony Grisoni after they filmed the Red Riding trilogy for Channel 4 back in 2009.
