it certainly doesn't make one person better than another.
I literally just agreed with that:

Not appreciating that indeed doesn't make anyone a 'better or worse' person.
Ok, but you still think that person has less taste than someone who does think that it was a good performance?
One thing I have learned and accepted from a few exchanges that I have had on here is that it's not possible to explain this to anyone who doesn't understand/feel it. I suppose I'd thought the sheer historical significance of the man would have resulted in at least some more respect, but it's clear that with some that is simply not the case.

McCartney on Saturday reminded me in a small way of a video I saw of Juan Manual Fangio doing a demo run in Australia in 1978. Fangio was pretty old by then, and would not have been as fast as he was at his peak. But the whole crowd, and, in particular, fellow drivers and racing personnel looked on in total awe.

It's just opinions that's all, some will have opinions like yours and others will maybe have the opposite opinion. I don't really see how respect comes into this though.

I must be getting old, hardly any of the acts appealed to me, and I tried watching a number of acts.

Skunk Anansie and Jack White the stand outs for me, and I guess that shows my taste vs the lineup.

As an at home watcher I think it was a particularly weak year all round - we usually flick around the stages and enjoy finding new things and enjoying what we already know.

This year was really flat with a lot of either dull or stuff that made us just turn off.

As mentioned pages back, the idles are worth a watch on catch up for their sheer energy.

Been a fan for a while but they poured everything into this performance!

Different strokes for different folks isn't it I guess.
This is the first Glastonbury that I can recall where I wish I'd gone as there are so many acts I would love to see live, normal years it's just not my taste at all.

A slight disclaimer though in that I've not managed to watch any of the iPlayer coverage yet though so I don't know whether those who I would have gone to see were actually any good!

I've been many a time, starting at 25 ( so 1995) as I have mostly lived in the vacinity. Back then we'd buy a ticket on the day and pile up in a van.

Over the years it's obviously changed, and I was there to witness the slow transformation into a BBC spectacle, with big headliners (pop) that brought in people who'd never have considered a festival before. I've gone from sitting at the other stage watching the Orb, with a few thousand people, with hawkers selling "black ash "and shrooms (and nakid people walking about), to what is now a full on scrummage to sit down anywhere, to watch acts you can't get any near to unless you are prepared for the crush that is the front.

10 years back it was still a lot of fun, and you had coldplay and other "mega bands" to keep the interest keen, along with other more random st. People still lit fires in the Pyramid stage audiences, and the late evenings were very relaxed - wandering from area to area (zone to zone?). People chatted.

I went back 3 or so years ago (last one pre-covid) and the crowding was insane. Really unpleseant. Frightening at one time. We were looking for an emergency route out when at the back of the Other Stage crowd. Rag n Bone man was on and we wanted to get to the JP stage for the Killers. I've never seen anything like it. The old railway line was chokka with people, not walking, but watching the Other Stage, over the hedge! We had to fight our way over tents to escape. JP stage was the same. We then fought our way to the back of the Pyramid audience - after a forced break between tents, just to escape the crush.

We went this year and found one refuge - the Acoutstic stage/tent. I think the younger crowd assumed it was all Ralph Mactell, etc. so it was always chilled - outside and in. Saw the Undertones close up, not crowded, plus some others.

We learnt from last time not to be on the move when the Pyramid or Other stage was emptying on a sat/sun night, so we headed up to Arcadia, only to find the gig we wantedf was cancelled!

Missed Wet leg as the are was "closed" for safety reasons.

Hit the Pyramid early for Elbow, thinking Ross would not be what it was. Jesus christ, the whole of Glasto descended on the Pyramid. Live, she was bloody aweful. The thing that really surprised us, was half the crowd buggered off when she was done. I mean, come on! Elbow, in the sun, at Glasto! Great for us mind you - was the total highlight of the weekend. I wondered whether the teens pile in for the "legend slot" for selfies then clear off?

We had long decided to steer clear of Maccas set, but the rest of the festival was absolutely deserted by comparison. We ended up back at the cider bus and the 1st hour of Maccas set hardly got a round of applaus. When we read the media reviews/news/TV hyperbole you'd have though the second coming had happened. I really think you get a warped sense of "quality" when watching the BBC coverage. You are getting to watch from the "best seat" on the house, with perfect sound. The reality for everyone there is watching a screen from afar, with poor audio.

We both had good fun, but to be honest, it'll be my last (I've prob been around 12-15 times). I don't want to hear old people try and sing - there are PLENTY of good young acts out there that can still actually hold/reach a note. I also don't want to hear artists just because they are female, and balancing the numbers - god alive we heard some ste coming from Willliams' Green tent.

The overcrowding when Macca finished was off the scale. We were lucky and half prepared so only got caught briefly in what was a frightening moment. A lot of people got stuck for half an hour.

We both noticed that this year was dull/flat. There was a lack of atmosphere, and the music was underwhelming. My mrs said to me at one stage, "where is the BIG act - you know, like Radiohead, or Arcade Fire, or, .. you know...?" Instead we got Macca and Ross with a combined age of around 160 . Too much focus on "legends". Going to try the Secret Garden Party next year. Enjoy the atmosphere, and the music can come second.

Oh - the flags - are amazingly useful! Never had one as don't go in big groups but we used them a lot to find each other. Whatsapp messages containing two or three flags - send to your mate - and they can find you. Delete flags for sender and recipient if and when they decide to move! - At night time, they can be the only way to get back and find your group at the bigger stages after you've gone to the loo/bar.
