Been playing catch up with S2... I was most surprised to see they made the big scale Lotus (an absolutely stunning model!) in full JPS livery. I thought that was long banned, and people had to convert with their own decals once bought?

Montana can think on her feet, though.
She's definitely got a lot of novel ideas (the 3d scanned Simon, the "my first train set" etc) which must be the benefit of having a young trendy mind paired with the older veterans like Simon.

Anyone else beginning to get a bit of a crush? hehe

Why do they keep showing clips of Rocket with one of the wheels not going round?

Anyone see the "real" Porsche 935 on the programme just now? Actually a targa and I think it might have been a roadgoing DP modified car. Either way, that's no real criticism of the programme - just a point to bring up here. smile
There was only a glimpse, but I wondered whether it would really be a targa.

That's quite common, quite a few shots of stuff being shoved around the track with locked wheels.

I've got that old-style Coronation streamlined loco from the early 70s when my Dad bought it me for Christmas. I don't have it to hand, but I don't remember it having blue wheels, and I certainly don't remember being able to turn the driving wheels with my fingers, because they're connected to the drive motor. I suspect the "old" one they showed was actually the later tender-driven model, unless there was something wrong with mine. I don't remember being able to turn the driving wheels on any of mine.

I've also got a carriage roof that warped like the one they showed, and I seem to remember getting the blame for leaving it on the window sill for too long. Nice to know it wasn't just me. I've got that old Princess Elizabeth loco, too, but it never ran properly.

The shots of the "Clan Line" model on the turntable just had me shouting "the tender's back to front" every time it came on.

It must be too expensive to get the actual Bond theme music to play behind the piece on the Aston.

A decent enough round-off to the series, though, and nice that being a top ten it wasn't just made up of sequences from the series that we'd already seen. I still wanted to see more of that OO-scale garden layout though.

If there is a series three. I am hoping for a bit more variety.
It would be nice to see models from the other side... just mix it up a bit more.
(Only a smattering of vehicle related stuff)

I wonder if Hornby have ever thought of merging with Airfix and producing model locos that you can make and run.

I have an Airfix model of a Black 5 (model is called "Mogel"). It doesn't have a motor, so it will only ever be a static model.

I wouldn’t fancy gluing on all those rivets... especially if it’s got more than one type.

I liked the look of those Minic road cars. I didn't know anyone who had one when I was a kid - my guess is they were very expensive. What I liked was the realistic speed, unlike Scalextric which is mentally too fast.

When I saw your username, I thought there might be a link to the type of car in question - either way, love your cars.

Here's a photo. Ignore that it's slightly out of shape, it's a photo of the TV. Doesn't even look quite right as a genuine "targa" actually.

In the late 1960s, Triang-Hornby, as it then was, produced a couple of locomotives and coaches in their range as "flat pack" pre-painted kits. Iirc the sales tax of the day was lower on kits than assembled items and so it was thought that such things would appeal to the budget conscious. The models of the day were, needless to say, far simpler than they are now.

I believe you are referring to their CKD (Completely Knocked Down) models. I purchased several of these and you are right, they were cheaper because there was lower tax (presumably the same reason on could buy cars like TVRs and Lotus 7s as parts). They were not a construction kit like an Airfix model, but you got the same loco or carriage as usual except it was in component parts. So, for example, I bought a green Princess Elizabeth which was basically the plastic body, the cassis, the motor, the cylinder block and the con rods etc. and a bag of screws. Same for the BR Mk1 coaches of which I bought several. It was a bit of fun and saved money.

My Brothers mate put a train engine in an Anglia... apparently it went like stink for a little while, before it burnt out.
( I’m talking Scalextric of course) rolleyes

I am not a model railway fan or model car fan but enjoyed the series, the employees are good ambassadors for the company.

Oops, I am not a model car fan but I have a Pocher Rolls Royce bought in 1977 with redundancy money, bought wife diamond ring of same value. Ring is now worth much more than the Pocher.

A year ago decided to dismantle the car and rebuild as my quality standards and skills are much better than 45 years ago

For a reasonably competent modeller it is relatively simple to combine an Airfix 1:32 model car with a Scalextric chassis.

I did turn the Aston Martin (DB4 / 5) into a modified GT.
Got rid of the ‘skinnies’ & put full fat racing rubber on it... admittedly only by enlarging the arches & a bit of chassis engineering.
I did try converting a larger scale Zakspeed Capri... without much success. rolleyes

I had a Minic set, wanted a Scalextric but parents went for the cheaper Minic

Not all was realistic speeds,0 though car chases between a RR Shadow and a Mk2 Jag complete with blues got very "dab of oppo". All spoilt when they could be out dragged by a Routemaster bus.
