Now that people seem to have watched the whole series - who was it that got shot in the face by the motorcyclist in the final episode?
Wasn’t it the taxi driver who drove the female detective to the air field?

Admittedly I got confused in places too!

That was McAvoy's wife. He was planning to escape with a helicopter.

I haven't seen it all yet, I'm sure a lot of others haven't too.

So, use of the 'Spoiler' function would be appreciated.
Honestly, if you haven't watched it by now, just stay away from the thread. It's been available for weeks!

I really enjoyed the series, but then I am mildly obsessed with financial fraud/crime.

Here a couple of interesting related documentaries on YT -

Roger Cook on John Palmer -

That old Transit must have been dragging it's ass on the ground with 3 ton of gold and 6 blokes on board
The sheer amount of gold is incredible. I watch a mining programme where huge companies spend millions and 6 months, digging up an area the size of a small town in the brief summer in the middle of the frozen North of America to get just 150kg, and they consider that a great success.

3 tons is just an insane amount.

Enjoyed it but felt the main players like Noye and Palmer were played as nice blokes, wouldn't harm a fly, just a bit bent. In reality they were nasty pieces of work. I wonder if the Beeb, were worried about being sued if they portrayed them otherwise.
The car bits wrangled me, chasing a gold Rolls Royce ( complaining the Scorpio couldnt keep up!) and having no idea where is was going, how many gold Rolls Royces are there registered in an address in the locality?
The court scenes were just awful, the lack of successful prosecutions was unbelievable yet true. Palmer's turnover went from 82k to 4M and yet the jury let him off.
The bank scenes were an eye opener, withdrawing hundreds of thousands in cash, no questions, nowdays I cant get 5k out of my bank without first of all warning them then days in advance, then answering a page of questions.

I think Noye would have his work cut out trying to prove he was anything other than a scumbag and John Palmer was murdered in 2015, so I don’t think the BBC should be overly worried smile

Palmer lived and was murdered near me on sandpit lane and a former uncle in law was in a cell next to him for a while in the early 2000’s (quite a nice bloke according to him)

But on my first geographical point I often wonder if a day out with a shovel in the woods of south weald would be worth a go hehe

It was more than that, by all accounts at one point the Barclays branch in Bristol paid out 13 million in cash, they had to keep ordering new notes from the Bank of England, this is were the serial numbers came in as they were all from the same batch.

They reported it at the time but no action was taken.

Did he really? I live within spitting distance and often use Sandpit Lane as a cut through - which house was his?

And if you ever want a treasure hunt partner, just let me know. smile

Yeah you can’t see his place from the lane as it’s set back but I think there’s a driveway next to sandpit farm that takes you to it.
I read somewhere that sandpit lane is full of people you wouldn’t mess with, it was an ex police officer who said that the crime rate on that road is 0 owing to the fact that you wouldn’t want to burgle any of the houses down there.
Absolute pain in the arse of a road too, wish ECC would sort of some of the pot holes!

We've just watched the final part, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Cure's "A Forest" was very fitting to end it with.
