What I find funny is that PSNI stations in these shows are low security counters with sliding doors off a main street. The reality is they are like fortresses behind high walls.

It's a drama, not a documentary.
The accuracy is laughable. Episode 1 the lady on thE republican estate swinging two kitchen knifes. The PSNI aren't going to try and talk to her while she's jabbing them towards member of the public. It would be straight out of the car with taser or more likely in NI a side arm pointed right at her, shouting for her to drop them. Not this softly sweet talk approach.
Think one of the whole points of the show was the WPC coming from a different background and trying to do things differently/change things.

Quite enjoyed it overall. I think the turning point from being dismissed as a lightweight police drama in a different setting being the knee capping.

Clearly making a point about the clash between policing and "Sneakies". I'm guessing that's an ongoing thing in NI?

Ep 2 so far. The acting is awful. The accents are worse. The Sergeant has her stripes upside down. The continuity is laughable and it's just not credible.

If it doesn't markedly improve, I'm out.

I'm 4 deep and think it's brilliant. Right up there with Line Of Duty for me, really intense stuff.
Same really enjoying it. Got me immersed early on.

I see above people say its not a patch on happy valley. I have never seen it so if thats actaully better i look forward to watching it as well.
Well Happy Valley is outstanding, probably consistently over a few series the best British program of it's type in my opinion. Early Line Of Duty (S1- S5) was brilliant too but I think it jumped the shark late on. I'd say Happy Valley edges it over Blue Lights mainly due to it being 3 series long but they are very similar with dashes of humor.

Finished Blue Lights tonight and the ending didn't disappoint, really enjoyed and hope for a follow up series.
I've only see one episode and I thought it was pretty crap.

Are you suggesting it gets much better, or we just have different taste?

I’ve seen all of them now, it was a slow burner but turned out brilliant.

A lot of the details and procedures are shall we say, interesting.

My biggest wtf was the probationers seemingly calling the shots, particularly just ignoring their tutors. But this was particularly bad in episode 1.

I was going to bin the whole thing but something made me keep going. It’s a drama not a documentary. Pleased I did though as I enjoyed how it developed and in the end thought a second series could be good.

I've only seen ep1.

It seemed a bit silly, but was intriguing to see Belfast.

Parking the Police cars facing into the cul de sac, requiring a 3 point turn to getaway from trouble was a schoolboy error. The English woman officer parked her Skoda/Audi forwards in her drive too.

After ep1 I thought it was a bit Police Academy - After ep3 it's much more serious, and much better, and very much more real.

The sergeants stripes are the correct way for PSNI. HTH with the credibility

I thought this was pretty good. Not as good as Happy Valley but that was exceptional, in fairness...

I don't expect it to mirror reality but some things make you sit up and say WTF. Like the female cop disobeying orders to withdraw from the out of bounds area leading to the officers coming under attack. Ditto with her giving the same woman a lift home in her personal car.

Glad I stuck with it as the last couple of episodes were reasonable though.

Same for me, watched the first half hour and thought this is pretty dire but stuck at it.
By the time I was on episode 3 I was hooked and binged the remaining ones.

Done Ep3. Still a bit 'meh' with it. Will probably watch the rest but not overly fussed if it goes to S2.

After a weak first episode, Mrs F. & I watched it completely over 2 nights. 7/10, recommended, apparently there's a second series in the offing too.

Happy to report I stuck with it and it does indeed get better. Thanks.

Anyone in same boat as me, stick with it!

I guess I must be easily pleased because I thought it was excellent from start to finish. Some good characters that interacted will with each other...especially Gerry.
