David Miller (ex COO) giving notably straightforward answers to simple questions at the moment. Although he did strongly resile from a report involving him reportedly likening something to being as welcome as having a 15" bayonet shoved up his rear passage, I noted.
He seems to have come a bit more forgetful as time goes on though...

I reacted the opposite way. The blessed Jason wouldn't have resorted to that kind of abuse smile

By pure chance, I’ve just found the clip of it

I love Mr Beer’s style of questioning, but Mr Stein is just brutal!

Would have been hilarious if the case hadn't been so serious....I note he wouldn't say how much his salary was!

Exactly what I said to my wife when we watched the clip.

Coyne report basically said "terminals blue screening with stop 0xxxx errors" is bad hardware/peripherals/software and the helpdesk telling users to reboot doesn't deal with the underlying problem and the call staff were probably more interested in closing calls quickly.

Jason Coyne's appearance explaining he report which also involves Elaine Tagg's witness statement.. (remember her...)

I'm not exactly sure what the point of the question was. He was correct not to answer!

Not defending him by the way, and note that the questioner did not follow up with a further reply.

If he was proud of his work and felt he was worth his salary and deserved his no doubt considerable bonuses, why not answer?

Point of the Q IMO was in relation to his earlier answer to whether he was "incompetent" bearing in mind peoples' lives were completely ruined for sums that probably didn't equate a month's salary for him and he was specifically the person on the board saying they should be "going after the SPM's pensions to pay POL back for the "fraud" they were commiting" when he knew full well there were issues with the system that was being hidden from the Courts and the same system that was being used as evidence against the SPM's to prosecute them.

As I saw it, the point was very much about highlighting the fact that in his position, he should have known what was going on and read a report on the issue. To claim, as he does that he hadn’t reas the report is either incompetence or he is lying.

In a court of law then the question would have been designed to put serious doubts of the reliability of the witness in the minds of a jury. For an inquiry like this, less so.

I couldn't help seeing in the background, just to the right of the barrister a nameplate - Mishcon de Reya. They are a very prestigious law firm, having represented some very famous clients (Princess Diana), but they seem to have fallen slightly in recent years. They are going to be representing Paula Vennels.

Back to business as usual this morning with the delayed evidence of Mr Longman, National Security Advisor who seems to be rather hard of thinking and short of remembering.

Thanks for this - missed it and what's interesting apart from Coyns's damning evidence of systemic errors is that this was happening in the early 2000's

He even gives answer to questions before he's asked because he knows where it's going.

I have been watching some of his evidence and he certainly looked uncomfortable at times. As per usual, a lot of hindsight involved along with “I don’t remember”.

The over riding issue that I picked up was that clearly there was knowledge within the Legal Team that Horizon was far from perfect but to admit that would cause so much pain that they covered it up, failed to declare evidence to defence and continued to prosecute regardless.

There really does need to be criminal prosecutions for those involved.
