It was Phil's win last night right up until the boardroom where a) he said business wasn't all about profit and b) maintained his plan to increase online sales.
LS at that point had no choice other than give Rachel the win -a sort of least worst option rather than desired choice !

Yep - I did a huge facepalm at that point.

"Dear investor, let me have your cash, I don't plan to make a profit or give you the best return I can, I just want to be nice to my mum and dad"

Absolutely, that's why I watch!

I've probably mentioned this before, but what really cracks me up is the way these people, who declare themselves to be business whizzkids, can't see where they're going wrong until Shuggs tells them. And sometimes not even after that ...

Whereas I, your average run of the mill plonker, could see it right from the beginning.

Is it actually an investment or is it like dragons den where they say it's an investment but it's actually a loan?

Investment ( albeit without being based on actual valuation )although more like a joint venture ie LS gives Rachel £250k plus his team give advice and I suppose he might occasionally although doubt you'll see his car parked outside her gym.
Dragons Den is similar - the loan aspect comes in when they are negotiated down in terms of their ownership participation ie money back in say 12 months then they drop their participation.
DD , the participant's want help usually from specific skill set or connected individuals.
The Apprentice , presumably some want TV exposure and in fairness Rachel seemed pretty genuine but for many, as above comments why would they ever think they have something to offer ?!
The so called DJ last night is a prime example of this.

I also thought that his pitch which included a tale of how he was a waster and was spending his time doing very little until his mum told him to take over the pie business may not have helped his cause.

Wife and I also laughed at the allocation of the 'helpers' Rachel ended up with pretty much a dream team of the strongest candidates from the process, and Phil ended up with Virdi....

Yup quite agree.
I understand why their Business Plans (I use the expression loosely ) are obviously released to AS in advance but it takes away much of the so called "drama" in wondering who would make the final given AS had quite clearly decided to keep Phil in the process despite his many fails and wanted to invest in the family's business.
There must be surely be a limit now to how many runs the Apprentice can be on for ?

I am surprised that Rachel won. I had Phil down to win it! There had to be a reason he stayed in the process and got to the final. I think LS had his eyes on the fact it was already established (way more established than hers) and had good figures, despite the loss it just made.

Thinking about it, I think Phil played a blinder! He didn't need really LS, and now has the fact that he got to the final as something he can mention / brag about. The show has really elevated his business. Good on him!

Yeah normally people say, I watched my nanna bake things when I was little so I knew from a young age I wanted to try it.. Phil was like, I'll just slip into the ready made family business as I'm bumming around after college rolleyes

It's entertainment but obviously not to be taken seriously. Somewhat bizarre that they have to create a business name, logo, brand, etc.........for companies that already exist!.
I wonder if the BBC won't allow them to promote their existing business name, which could also be seen as advertising on their channel? So they have to rebrand for the show?

I didn't see it like that at all.

The fact was he wanted to continue online sales, LS didn't and Phil (rightly or wrongly) wanted to maintain his vision. I respect that more than him just saying "oh yes OK LS, I will drop it all if you invest".

After all it's about investment and there has to be agreement between the two. A bit like the Dentist guy who said that his business was only the new branch - not the others.

At the end of the day the winner built her business from scratch. The runner up was handed the pie business on a "pie" plate from family.

Although good entertainment at times, I think the format and benefactor is done.
Pretty pathetic - gyms and pies. Meanwhile some 14 year kid in Korea is probably writing an algo that can change our lives.

It should be a younger, tech savvy person, someone like Demis Hassabis (Deep Mind) or Nick D'Aloisio
With proper candidates, educated (or least smart!) people
A broader range of ages.
No suits!

They could do something proper with it, encourage young talent.

Nobody like that would want to go on a show like this, and his Lordship wouldn't know what to do with them if they did.

This is just a reality gameshow for wideboys and wannabes, with more ambition than imagination, and less business acumen than a market stall trader.

I bet Phil didn't want the other pie man on his team, though they do say keep your friends close and your enemies even closer

I had one of Phil’s pies for lunch today. Chicken and ham in a box with some peas and mash for £6.95, it was alright, not amazing.

I was thinking Demis as the hirer. Maybe Lord Sugar can be the one of the candidates.

Lord Sugar your C++ was awful!
