Agreed. Post one of this thread just about nailed it.

TL; DR; +1 entertaining movie.

Edit: apparently using more adjectives is a spoiler, so :

It was a cheesy, schmaltzy, feel-goody, contrived, at-times-trying-too-hard-to-pay-homage-to-the-originally, fantastically Top Gunny and entertaining movie.

And the flying scenes, especially when you know the actors did them for real, are nothing short of spectacular.

Was good (and bad frown ) to see Kilmer.

Very poignant.

Just got back from the Showcase in Bristol. Screening was full which was good to see.

Film itself was fantastic. Old ,new, 80s nostalgia, soundtrack , flying footage. Jennifer Connolly who I first fell in love with when I saw her in The Labyrinth when I was a child.

There’s been a lot of reboots recently of 80s films, most of them terrible. This was not

Just got out too, best film I've seen in years and definitely booking to go see it again. Loads of subtle details that satisfied the inner geek in me too including a few nods to some of my favourite squadrons.

Was also nice to see the cinema so busy with people dressed up. I can't remember the last time I had a cinema experience like it.

Technically better film than the first, more flying, but nowhere near as iconic. It had some charm but not like the first.

Not sure there will be many one liners from the this film still being thrown around in 37 years time either.

I feel the need… etc.

Still great film, best for a number of years, but that’s not been too hard in the age of all that Marvel ste.

Exactly my thoughts. The homage to the first one seemed very cack handed in places and some of the action scenes made the original look like a documentary, but this is 2010+ film making, and as it stands it was absolutely bloody brilliant! smile

Original is still perfection, and all the goosebump (forgive me) parts came from the original film, and this one didn’t have the charm or subtlety. However on the whole they did it justice and made a fantastic film at the same time.

Well I bloody loved it.

If I didn’t have friends coming over for a BBQ later I’d go see it again.
