I remember watching some of that at the time, especially Cavalier sales bloke, and thinking what a bunch of utter wkers.

Almost 20 years later my views have not changed.

I've just watched some of the old clips on YouTube.

You say that "20 years later my views have not changed" - surely these people (or at least their views) do not exist any more? In an era of flexible benefits and company car opt-out schemes, the size and spec of your car no longer signifies your success/seniority.

The chubby sales rep who could recognise the model of car as it approached in his mirrors (based on whether it had headlight wash/wipe or colour-coded bumpers) would be flummoxed these days, with long option lists allowing you to add visual muscle to a low-powered car.

This documentary is great for capturing a period in time. The importance that people place on the car they drive has changed, along with other social norms. These days, people would be more likely to notice when you pull out an iPhone 5S at the end of a meeting, or whether you just have an "outdated" 5...
