My favourite in recent years is Fury with Brad Pitt and Shia Labeouf. And Pitt also stars in the best war film of all time, Inglorious Basterds.

Unlikely to be on our screens soon. It's Miramax.

My all-time favorite war film is the full 5 hour director's cut of Das Boot.

Diametrically opposed to the nonsense that is "Fury"

The ending of Fury was so ridiculous it made Inglorious Basterds look like a documentary.

Went The Day Well is especially good as it was made during the war, but was told in hindsight from a peaceful Britain in (I think) 1950.

Oh dear! I think you’ll find almost every film mentioned in this thread were largely fictional, regardless of what the posters might have said. The events may be in chronological order, but everything else is a very loose approximation and in large part, pure fiction and artistic license. That’s the nature of film making.

Kajaki has been mentioned already, but I'll say it again. British para regiment trapped in an old Afghanistan minefield.

Went to see Apocalypse Now this week at the cinema, it was the 40th anniversary of the film. I hadn't seen any version of it before, this was a 'Final Cut' version https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/apocalypse-now-.... This one was 'only' 3 hours long. Not seeing any version of the film before, I did like it, it's a bit odd though hehe .
