Lisa Gerrard's voice gives me goosebumps, and the Gladiator soundtrack was arguably some of Hans Zimmer's best work.[/quote

I can't decide if I want to cry or run up a mountain after listening to this.

Ennio Morricone - Once Upon a Time in the West. This clip features once of the most famous single take shots in movies. The music starts at 3:00.

Brian Eno "An Ending"

Used at the end of Traffic (Cliff Martinez, amazing soundtrack!) and in 28 days later, I think.

Lisa Gerrard is extraordinary. Not a film so maybe not 100% relevant here but she has a song called Sanvean that is played in an episode of the West Wing. It's an achingly-beautiful, haunting piece of music that was perfect for the scene (when Zoe Bartlet has been kidnapped).

Actually The West Wing has soem great music in it. Angel by Massive Attack...

I also liked a lot of the music (by Harry Gregson Wills or something like that?) in Spy Game. "Training Montage", "Spies" and "Dinner Out" are particularly good.

Good use of Brothers in Arms in that film too.

Does anyone know if "Exit Music (for a film)" by Radiohead has ever been in a film?!

Another one - Extreme Ways by Moby in the Bourne trilogy. I particularly enjoyed the remix at the end of the Ultimatum.

I know someone has already mentioned it but I'd have to agree with "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve at the end of Cruel Intentions

Honourable mentions however go to:

Moby - "Exteme Ways" in the Bourne trilogy
Rob D - "Clubbed to Death" and PropellerHeads - "Spybreak!" in The Matrix
Audioslave - "Shadow on the Sun" and Paul Okenfold - "Ready, Steady, Go" in Collateral

I'm a big believer that the right music can really make a scene iconic smile

Pretty much the whole of "Local Hero" (still one of my favourite films of all time).

The bit in "Restless Natives" when the boys are riding the bike through Edinburgh throwing money about.

The end of "American Werewolf in London", Blue Moon.

Convoy is funny as hell.

The soundtrack to Black Hawk Down is Pretty Damn Good.

Leave No Man Behind - Hans Zimmer
Minstrel Boy - Joe Strummer
Knockin' on Heavens Door - Bob Dylan
Suspiocious Minds - Elvis

Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell (and the Kronos Quartet) from Requiem for a Dream is awesome too - there are many different ararnegemnt sof the same piece in the same film. That whole soundtrack is superb.

Funky st by the prodigy is at the end of Event Horizon and is pretty appropriate. The rest of the soundtrack was pretty unimaginative IIRC.

Couple of good prodigy tracks in the first Matrix film too.

No, but a piano-only version of it was used in the film 'Unfaithful'.

Surprised nobody's mentioned the Adagio for Strings in Platoon...

Or "The End" in Apocalypse Now. Overrated bloody film IMHO but awesome song.

Vide Cor Meum in Hannibal. Just called "The Opera" on the soundtrack I think...

ETA: Oops, Vide Cor Meum is a repost. sorry.

Damn your eyes, I was just about to post that one! It's superb.

Kinda similar to the orchestral piece that was on the advert for the Lexus LS460. Lexus UK had so many queries about it the composer released it as a single! The "full" version is a bit pants but the 1 minute version on the ad is beautiful.

Iggy Pop with "Lust for Life" from Trainspotting.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmzaBvKzrZI (naughty words so probably not NSFW, but then why would you be watching a film clip about heroin abusers at work anyway smile)
