i think you're getting the blokes mixed up. it was the short haired guy who [off camera, with a clip looking out of an aircraft window] talked about a falling out with philippe as he was with him on the tower and was deported. i think long haired blokey was just a touch sensitive/arty and in awe of the beauty of what they'd done etc.

IIRC none of them have had anything to do with Phillipe since the "coup". They alluded to the tensions in the camp during the film and I got the distinct feeling that the event marked the end of the road for the team as Phillipe became a superstar and the others went back to France.

i read an article at the time of the cinema release and i think he's in touch with at least some of them.

to be fair to them, you can see how they felt left out. but then really what did they expect? what philippe did went far beyond planning, breaking & entering.

i'd add philippe to any fantasy 'go for a beer with / dinner party' list. fair play for getting plums deep before comtemplating anything
else!

That is the bestest best thing I've seen for ages.
Seconded. Tempted to go out and get the DVD now.

Sunday night BBC2 has been pretty good recently - there was the Ben Fogle / James Cracknell race to the South Pole thing, then last week there was a Hunter S. Thompson documentary, and this weekend Man On Wire.

It's a film I'd been meaning to watch for a while and I'm glad I caught it on Sunday night. I was so immersed in the story that I felt myself welling up at the end when Jean-Louis started crying. A simple film about an extraordinary feat and very moving.

Brilliant film. Had me clinging to the sofa with my stomach lurching. I was aware this wire walk had taken place but had no idea it was an illicit 'coup' - just assumed it had been a David Blain-esque stunt. Delighted to have been put right.

Ahh... Well done. That's Jean-Louis Blondeau, the main accomplice. I'm guessing that they are not great technically but 66 is fantastic for the look on Phillipe's face and 68 and 69 are the iconic pics.

Query sent.

I think the tearful guy was thinking about how the twin towers walk was the end of the adventure for all of them. Even the New York cop was a bit choked by the awesomeness of it.

yeah, good work minimoog.

unrepentant - would you mind letting me know how you get on re: your enquiry? i have a feeling prints may be a tad expensive but if they are near to what i can afford i think a couple of those would look great in my living room.

Enjoyed it lots, I got the feeling from the bloke who broke down at the end that there was some sort of falling out between him and Phillipe, it wasn't in the clip where he cried but the one just before it, he said somethign (sorry can't remeber exactly what) that just made me think somethign had come between them.
Seems like it. If you look at Blondeau's website there are a couple of pages of text in between the photos of the walk. There are some clues in there...

Did anyone else spot the "observation deck pass" that the Port Authority gave him had a little man on a wire between the picture of the Towers?

Maybe it was obvious, but i saw this film a couple of years ago and did not see it til this recent showing!
