On the same lines as this......

Some nice, imaginative use of kitchen appliances towards the end.

I think both films fall into the "porn/torture" genre that Wolfcreek, Hostel and so on aspire to. Some people love these films, personally feel its been done to death and not of interest any longer.

Same here, don't see the appeal of those sort of film, watched bits of a couple of the Saw films and bits of Hostel and they're just boring.

These films are subjective though. Take Hostel, if you imagine yourself in the situation one of the characters is in where he is chained to a chair with a maniac about to put a drill to his leg then yes, I would be terrified, adrenalin would be pumping I would be desperate to be elsewhere, probably miserable at my situation, in total despair and begging the person not to put me through that torture, BUT I am not, I am watching a character who I don't really care that much about go through something I can imagine but cannot really relate to, consequently I don't see the point of watching it. Films I like to watch are usually based around car chases, general action films or thought provoking i.e. escapism. Torture porn films are not escapism, they take you to the very places you don't want to be.

Don't get me wrong I've tried to like the genre I really have, from early on with stuff like I spit on Your Grave, The Hills have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, through to Last House on the Left, the Hostel films, Saw films, Wolf Creek, Wrong Turn, Mothers Day (particularly disturbing), The Strangers (almost quite tame compared to the others), Devils Rejects, Funny Games etc. but they leave me cold. I heard about Eden Lake and just thought - here we go again, average couple/family are going to be stalked, abused and subsequently murdered in a horrible way, why bother.
