I agree Young Sheldon is definately much better than I thought it would be & well worth the time. One thing I think they have changed is the character of Sheldon's father. In TBBT he is portrayed as a beer swilling redneck alcoholic (skeet shooting the mother's Franklin Mint plates off the roof) with a dysfuctional relationship with Sheldon's mother but it's a very different character in YS.

Maybe it will all go downhill in a later series.

It'll be interesting how it pans out given the history of his dad...

I have reconciled the different character of his dad by assuming that, later on, Sheldon's mum resented him for dying and leaving the family in the lurch, so she began to dredge up all his bad points, and play down the positives.

It took me ages to realise he also played Leonard's bully in TBBT. I only realised when watching an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia where he plays a drug crazed madman!

They definately like re-using the same actors. I like the fact that the same actress has played every hospital, doctor & sperm clinic nurse across both TBBT & YS.

Haven't seen Young Sheldon, but stopped watching TBBT ~season 9.
Recently picked it up again with the OH, we're enjoying it again. Now up to season 11 and manage to see a couple of episodes every evening. It might be because I was tired of seeing it, but it's better than I remembered it had gotten.

I still don't like Bernadette though. She always had a rotten edge, but it has gotten worse now that she has kids. The thing is that I know people like that in the real world so it's relatable but still don't like her demeanor and the jokes around it.

The other thing is, I'm no scientist but I keep up to speed with popular science and the "science" they talk is very low brow. The equations on the boards are way above my pay grade, but their "science lingo" is just a bit too "dumb" for my liking if you catch my drift.
For example: in one of the latest episodes we saw Bernadette was studying some astrophysics about the heat death of the universe, it all seemed just out of place for a character that's supposed to be a scientist (even though she's a microbiologist), it just felt way too basic, like teaching an accomplished linguist about Pythagoras' theorem, it's not her field but with her more than basic intelligence and education you'd expect her to already know about it.

TL;DR: The last seasons aren't perfect but perfectly acceptable.

I definitely think the earlier seasons were the best, but having said that there were a few gems in the later ones. I thought they ended it pretty well too. I haven't seen Young Sheldon, is it worth a watch?

Definitely worth watching YS. Better than TBBT in my opinion, especially the later ones.

Great to hear, the OH and I will probably pick that up after we finish S12 in a month or so.

YS is (IMHO of course) absolutely brilliant. It's his sister who gets all the best lines though.

In the last episode I saw, there was a nice reference to TBBT also.

Yep Young Sheldon is a complete gem of a TV show, it's sweet and funny. It's sort of at odds with some of what Sheldon says about his familyin TBBT (especially his Dad) but it's good enough that I don't think anyone will care.

Also, there are no bad characters in it that I can think of.

Just noticed Will Wheaton's house number is 1701 biggrin I love stuff like that, simple but someone needed to do that.

This. Can't think of any in Young Sheldon - all the characters are great.

I really enjoyed Meemaw's fellas acting where he seems to be having a breakdown - it was really touching and superbly woven in to the show.

I missed the final 5 episodes in May by going on a road trip where they don't show it and CH4 have finally shown the whole

12 seasons again ,finishing on Friday ,so I saw the missed episodes.

The 3rd last ,I think it was ,with Leonard's mother, was dreadful ,the only laugh being the very last line from Denise's creepy

room mate.

I did enjoy the final episode though ,brought it to a decent close.

Nice to see Halley and Michael actually appear on screen ,instead of just an awful grandma Wallowitz crying noise in Halley's case.

Raj hooks up with Buffy the vampire slayer ,who'd have thought that ?......laugh

8/10 for the last episode.

I'm working my way through all the episodes on Netflix and it's surprising how edited the series was for E4. The humour is a lot more adult when you get the whole episode.

I'm enjoying spotting all the "new" bits.

Can't recall much about the final episodes save Sheldon stands up at the wedding..of...someone? It's all pretty awful, but I do want to watch it again one day.

The episodes being shown now are substantially edited down from the first run ones shown on Thursday evenings because they have to be suitable for children, given they could be shown at any time of the day. Personally I think the put the trainee on it because some of the cuts are very jarring.
