Being home alone this evening, I sat down for a bit of a catch up with the new series of 24.

What a load of old tosh. Fanciful story lines. One too many unbelievable twists. I turned it off halfway through the first (of three) episode.

So sad, as this used to be one of the best programmes on the box. frown

Not sure what episodes you were watching but it does get a bit better. I recall 2 or 3 episodes dragged a little bit (it's now at about 13 isn't it?!?!?) - anyhow, it does pick up again, but I do agree - it's not holding me as much as the last 2 series.

That's when I turned it off too. I did watch the mini-movies thing before the previous series, but really can't stomach watching the entire series.

The problem is that there's literally no suspense anymore, you just know that whatever a characters situation it's always going to go tits for them

For example, the probation officer looking for Starbucks ex. We couldn't have just left that story with him dead and be done with it, oh no, they have to drag it on even longer with a probation officer searching for him at 3 in the morning.

The suicide bomber, you just knew what that outcome was going to be as soon as he locked himself in that chamber.

The best example of this was in about Series 2 when Kim Bauer escaped her captors, only to then run into a fking mountain lion. Couldn't just let her escape, they had to introduce a fukcing wild cat.

Then there's the fact that CTU seems to be run by a bunch of braindead monkeys. Everyones a double agent, people can just wander in and around the place willy nilly, they can't see through an elaborate bomb plot before it's too late, etc, etc.

I think it was 12 I was watching. Anyway, my step-daughter arrives hope and the first thing she says is "Did you see it tonight? It was absolutely amazing". Maybe, I should persevere a little longer...

At least it's getting a bit more interesting now.

I agree the show has peaked, and needs putting to sleep.

Or a change in direction with a new character perhaps?

I'd like to see the show go abroad seeing a character trying to obtain some of the 'intel' they have to hand all the time.

I'd like to see Chloe take up ninjudorate and kick some ass.

I think its 24 hour format was interesting when new and it's main 'hook', but it does turn the improbable into the impossible.

I like it if you consider it escapism and a rip-roaring 'read', reality is far to mundane anyway.

A bit more interesting now?

Agent at CTU turns out to have a hidden past thats coming back to haunt her, and she can't even come out with believable lies or hide her tracks. Thats about as likely as me running for PM.

President Big Hairs daughter is banging one of his aides, turns out he's playing for the bad guys, then he "lets" her escape and zaps ctu. Yah, like they'd even begin to let that happen.

CTU boss who can't even walk properly. More like a lumbering jackass.

Its double cross after double cross, and its getting more than just a little boring.

There could still be life in the series, but not with the current set of writers.

Get fed up after Day 4. Same old thing rehashed and what a dodgy bunch the CTU recruiters must be. Useless.

When we watch 24 now, we are trying to decide who is going to turn out to be the double-crosser, rather than if there will be one.

Current bets are the young tech droid guy.

That's the thing, the writers themselves don't have a concrete plan and write episode to episode rather than the whole thing in a block - that's why the double/triple crossing characters act innocent as the themselves don't know. Hence Tony As swift turn around last season.
