Razor was a TV movie that was released close to one of the series.
It was pretty good. Loved the retro Cylons.

i did the saw a couple of episodes and couldn't get into it, then got the box set and watched it in the space of a week. brilliant, can't believe i hadn't watched it before. really wish they had let it go on for a few more seasons though.

Drawn it out a bit? Might have gone downhill.

They were struggling enough for story lines as it was tbh. Quality, not quantity.
I think studio meddling helped there. Helped create a lot of 'meh' episodes detached from the arc.

There's an extended version of that Episode on the Blu-Ray version. Not that anyone could stay awake through another 25 minutes of it wink

I hated that episode; it was an absolute low point in the series.

No, I think they'd covered most of the stories there were to tell in that "situation" - shortages of supplies, political and social issues; social commentary on real world happenings, and most of the character developments and interactions in the first couple of seasons.

I think that's why quite a lot of things in the later series that didn't really make any sense came about - something had to happen that escalated the stakes but without covering old ground, and working from a limited set of characters and locations.

Some people seem to have a problem with the way it all ended, I thought it was still enjoyable enough to watch, but it was getting a bit close to becoming too silly and breaking the suspension of disbelief.
The studio did meddle, and wanted stories to be more stand alone to allow new viewers in. Moore acquiesced at first and bad ones came out, but eventually he put his foot down.

For me, the mutiny is some of the best stuff in the entire programme, so it ends just as high at any point.

Late to the party I know, but I've just finished The Mini-Series and Season 1. I'd always written it off as "just another TV sci-fi" show but it really is an excellent bit of work regardless of genre. Currently taking notes on all the geeky sites as to how/when to fit the various spin-offs into the viewing order.

The only problem with so much great TV going on at the moment, and available pretty cheap on DVD, is how to keep on top of it all!

The Caprica spin-off was a tad sucky, save for the last 30 minutes.

You've got some most excellent viewing ahead of you if you've only seen series one. biggrin

I was late to it as well; and watching it as a series with no weekly breaks (ie. mammoth evening sessions) it really is excellent.

But be warned, watched like that the end is ... maybe not quite what I was expecting. I wasn't expecting lame. But everything else leading up to that was excellent (for me, its way better than any of the Trek series).

I've just finished it again. Going to watch it, the Razor movie, the webisodes, and Caprica/Blood and Chrome again soon. I just can't get enough of it.

That's cool, I'm a big X-Files and Twin Peaks fan so I'm used to anticlimactic / abrupt endings in otherwise good TV!

Good call on the webisodes; for those who haven't seen them, start here

If you've still yet to watch this fantastic series then the whole of BSG is being shown on Pick TV (Freeview) starting 9pm on Monday 6th Jan.

They're starting with Season 1 Episode 1 "33" , NOT the miniseries that actually starts the the whole thing, but there's time to watch that before Monday.

(Alternatively everything including miniseries is on Netflix so sign up for the month's free trial and binge watch them there!) wink

Here's a great fan-made trailer to whet your appetite if unconvinced.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMGQ_pPCH74

So annoying that they never show the mini-series beforehand. Something to do with ownership?

Currently watching the final eps, up to S4E17 on Sky2 every Tuesday.

BSG was an epic series and I do not think there is another series that achieved what it did, with it's arc.
Possibly GoT will.
It had a great dénouement, it was flawed yeah, but it hit a lot of spots.
Got me thinking on Starbuck.
After getting up to S4E17 though I do think they totally fudged Starbuck. An escaped Daniel, possibly the original, should have been Kara's dad. And then thanks to her genetics she should have been 'reborn' at the Cylon hub. The Viper would have been hard to do...but then if she was at the hub and they had an old one from the first war? She should have been the first Human/Cylon hybrid.

I watched Blood & Chrome recently (the prequel that has William Adama as a young hotshot).

It seemed to get ever more fantastical, with their situation becoming ever more desperate, and then right at the end they get evac within a few mins. Which does beg the question as to whether they could have got reinforcements sooner. Like after their Raptor crashed.

It was ok though.
