Am I right in thinking this was filmed at Spadeadam in Cumbria?
(As in the Blue Streak test site)

Surely if they couldn't get permission for a 'fullsize' V1, then a V2 is going to be impossible with 'scaling down' again?

I think the sheep and window breaking excuse was because they were worried there wouldn't be anything left for the V2 test.

Pretty sure it was. Tony Robinson / C4 did a programme a few years ago about Guy Fawkes and they did a mock-up of the building at the same place, a "secret testing site in Cumbria". Yeah, easy to keep huge test explosions a secret!

They both had similar sized warheads - approximately 800kg.

The V2 obviously had higher kinetic energy at impact.

Looks like they explode the V2 in between the 2 rows, what's left of them. So definitely a saved till the end job.

V2 goes off in a field next to it. You can see all the earth being blasted up. I presume they did this because a V2 would penetrate quite deep below the surface before detonated but also to limit the blast damage.

Agreed about the show being a bit pointless. The bigger the bang, the further away it's detonated. As if 500kg bombs never hit houses directly......also, the milk bottle, that just has to be a set-up!

Ah yes, the shot I saw was from the other side and it looked like it was close.

They must use the full charge because that's a big bang.

This is interesting on the C4 website, all the V2 hits - http://www.channel4.com/programmes/blitz-street/ar...

Hmm, you have me wondering now...

I think this is the test area: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&amp...

The whole area is peppered with very curious looking constructions. Quite a lot of new stuff there too, so not just left-overs from rocket development in the 50s and 60s.

V2s could take out a single house from a terrace and leve the neighbouring houses still standing - as they came in virtually vertically and penetrated the earth by quite a bit before exploding.

There is some interesting footage of a V2 test flight at Peenemunde going wrong and impacting on the Luftwaffe air base next door (they were NOTY amused). What is interesting is the relatively small hole left by the blast..

I guess the blast was absorbed by the ground and then focus upwards? By far the most devasting bomb were the aerial mines that would drop by parachute and detonate a few feet off the ground, focusing as much of their blast horizontally.

just looking at the further linked maps in Walthamstow area from the channel 4 map link, one V2 damaged 700 houses on Billet Rd, one killed 80 people, completely wrecked 30 houses, damaged 1200 off Forest rd!
