I was talking to some friends about driving films and how car films generally suck now for example

the original gone in 60 seconds

Smokey and the bandit

gumball rally

two lane blacktop

If anyone can add more films I'd be really interested

If you can get a copy, try the Japanese real life version of initial-d, cheesy as hell at times, but amazing driving nonetheless.

Now then.

Unless there are two versions of the Initial-D film, it was actually a Hong Kong produced film with Chinese actors and dialogue in Cantonese rather than Japanese.

What about Ronin (not really a driving film but got a good couple of car chases in it) or American Graffiti?

I saw the new Death Race a few weeks ago. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be but not what I'd call a good film.

Indeed, and the drifting was filmed in the Guangzhou mountains near where I lived in China.

There's a lot less driving than in Mad Max though.
