Just watched HIGNFY with a few other people - ended up missing half of it as the women (and one bloke) kept having short conversations related to what was going on.

Eg:
Isn't Lembit's head large and wonky.
Is he still seeing that Cheeky Girl.
Was Sian Lloyd the daughter of Hugh Lloyd.

I am very much from the 'STFU and watch' camp. Am I odd?

Shut up and watch. Pause it on Sky+ if a discussion point comes up.

The more she talks, the more I make it clearer that I'm staring at the TV. She then gets pissy and leaves me to watch it in peace.

Mrs slopes does this ONLY during something i want to watch, and despite repeated polite hints, she has yet to learn to be quiet. Mind you, if i were to even dare do it during emmerdale, then she goes off on one, so much so, that on occasions i have left the house to avoid getting shouted at. Funny how when her folks come to stay, i have to be quiet during anything they want to watch, but the minute something comes on that i want to watch, theres 3 of the fkers gasbagging

Yes.

But then I can multi-task (enough at least). I can also (and am) have a conversation about what's happening in Friends which is on E4 and read PH.......

If it is something you want to see, then when you have guests over, record it and watch a different channel instead so you don't miss anything.

You appear to be living my life in a parallel universe.

Depend what we're watching. Something like Asea to Ashes, then it's silence (as it should be) something like the news or a documentary then we usually speak about it.

We seem to have set stuff that we talk over, or not. If there's something one of us particularly enjoys then it's silence (barring very brief exchanges about what just happened or the shape of someone's head in any quiet bits, scene changes etc). Mrs is even brilliant enough to, completely unprompted by me, keep the kids happy and quiet by herself when Top Gear or Doctor Who are on thumbup Most things we're quite happy to talk over. However there's not much on actual TV that we particularly like to watch and instead watch a great deal on the laptop after the kids have gone to bed, which means it becomes a bit of an "event", ie something we've specifically sat down to watch, and isn't just on in the background.

Wifey will sometimes try to start a conversation if we are watching something that she is not interested in, I have learn't to use the following reply which always instantly ends the conversation:

"fascinating..."

She will then normally reply with "your not interested are you?"

to which I reply:

"nope".*

Job's a good un! biggrin

Very much with you here, the two women I live with are lovely (one of them may of been persuaded to nose about on here biggrin) but they talk through most programmes when they get together, and it drives me up the bleedin' wall.
