Carpenter should have gone ahead and made the sequel dammit.

Bit of a pun here? One of the first 'horrors' I rented from my local store.

Great film, good opening with the dog being shot at. The squeemish bit? The blood in the tray to see who is infected - We all know who as seen it hundreds of times, but makes you jump everytime.

Please dont do a remake and fk it up.

And I'm guessing we all know how to tell which one's the Thing at the end?

Brilliant film, remember watching it when I was about 11 with the lights off and scared the crap out of myself.

Every time I watch it I forget who it is, so it gets me every time. For my money, some of the best "real" (ie, not CGI) effects in a film ever. I think Alien/Aliens are better films, but The Thing comes very close.

You can pick it up for 3 quid or so in the supermarkets now, you would be doing yourself an injustice not to watch it.

Really good film.

Yes. And Yes. Did I say Yes?

Quite simply its a stunningly atmospheric, blow away horror film that is one of those rare treasures where as a sequel it is better than the original.

Also there are a few 'WHAT THE fk?!!!!' moments smile

The Thing, for sure.

For me, no other film captures the desperate isolation of those 'inside' as this one.

The cartoon thing was good.
I forgot there was a prequel being filmed but last time I was on the wiki page I enjoyed the ideas that were floated around, especially the sci-fi channel one.

It's criminal it only ranks at #97 in rotten toms top 100 sci-fi.

Is Childs infected, I think Carpenter said he wasn't but not sure.

that faqs page is ace. as is this

My favourite horror film; scared the st out of me as a youngster!

As an adult you really appreciate other things such as the special effects, the story, certain scenes...an excellent film.

Oh NO! Expect over the top CG. Characters you could kill, massive overuse of computers and some love interest.

Anyone remember the game based on the film?

Started off OK, but I got fed up giving them orders.

The Thing is a great film, but top Sci-Fi Horror honours must go to Event Horizon.

Carpenter has done some great movies ..... best not mention Ghosts of Mars

I quite liked Ghosts of MArs. Event Horizon is good, perhaps the only recent film that even comes close to the Thing/Alien (being a gory version of The Black Holebiggrin?) But it is not as complex as the Thing. Just reading the FAQs page has made me realise how layered it is.

The Thing Is Currently Being Remade

Don't know how they can improve on the 1982 version (or even the 1951 version for its originality if nothing else).
