What was the trick? I watched for an hour before switching over but must have missed it.
ETA: Surely you don't mean that it was there all the time except when she walked straight through it when she jump on Sherlock?
I think that is exactly what he means. I saw it as more of a continuity error than a trick, but then Gatiss and Moffat must think that because they also write Dr. Who continuity doesn't apply to them.ETA: Surely you don't mean that it was there all the time except when she walked straight through it when she jump on Sherlock?

So. If Moffatt and Gatiss can just park their egos for five minutes, leave out all references to Moriarty, Euros and Mary and just get back to Sherlock and Watson, with Lestrade and a bit of Mycroft, Molly and Mrs Hudson thrown in, they could certainly write more Sherlocks and I for one would be happy to watch.
Totally agree with this. I enjoyed watching when they were solving crimes, but the Holmes family spiral was just dull. If you like watching the autistic detective, watch elementary if you haven't already.

Fair enough I guess but people are dissapointed because it has changed so much. Its not like the show people really liked at the start. It was a detective show, and now it isnt.
Maybe this was deliberate.
There's been a lot of talk of them not having the time or the BBC not having the money to do any more now Cucumberpatch and Freeman are Hollywood A-Listers, so maybe they wanted to drive a final nail in the coffin along with a stake through the heart to ensure they didn't have to put up with viewers forever bemoaning the Beeb's refusal (and inability) to revive it?

I highly doubt it. Why wouldnt they want to go out with the best they could do and their existing huge budget? There's been a lot of talk of them not having the time or the BBC not having the money to do any more now Cucumberpatch and Freeman are Hollywood A-Listers, so maybe they wanted to drive a final nail in the coffin along with a stake through the heart to ensure they didn't have to put up with viewers forever bemoaning the Beeb's refusal (and inability) to revive it?

Killing it off by making it st doesnt make any sense.

Agreed. I think people are being too generous by suggesting that as an ulterior motive. I believe the writers genuinely thought they had produced epic brilliance and in true BBC style no-one was going to dare question 'the talent'.Another production where the showrunners have an overinflated opinion of their abilities, fuelled by heaped-on praise for past successes that are disappearing further and further into history.
I think that was definitely 'finished'. Look at the end of all the other series, they all had links to what was yet to come, little teasers, unanswered questions.
This wrapped up the (rather pants) story and had them all nicely sitting around, happy and content at the end with a soothing voiceover. If that wasn't them wrapping up the series I don't know what was.
Of course they may find that in a few more years they have a fresh idea and Cumbubble and Freewilly have some spare time, but I doubt it.

Iirc I've read somewhere that Martin wasn't going to do more, I've got a feeling it was in an interview with Amanda about their Divorce & making this series after it
I've also seen somewhere today that it won't continue because Martin & Benedict aren't friends; or they don't mix outside of work. Which is a ridiculous theory!

Well that was a disappointment.
Nicely made, pleasant to watch (bar the CGI) and some good lines, but really Midsomer Murders does it so much better.
Given some Bond'esque plotlines (family home, hidden siblings, Aston Martin, OTT villain's lair, glass cell) why not go the whole hog and combine them? James Holmes / Sherlock Bond out to sort the World's baddies...

My suggestion wasn't intended entirely seriously.

If I want to watch Sherlock Holmes I tune in to the old Jeremy Brett adventures. Fantastic programs.
New Sherlock is just bonkers and quite fun on a Sunday night when I've been at the morphine. I can sit there in Bill & Ted mode and say, "Woah, dude!", enjoying the trip of madness.
This is exactly how I feel.New Sherlock is just bonkers and quite fun on a Sunday night when I've been at the morphine. I can sit there in Bill & Ted mode and say, "Woah, dude!", enjoying the trip of madness.
You would think from this thread that it is impossible to like both.

I actually watched Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (and the less excellent sequel) a few weeks ago - It was MUCH better than the Sherlock finale...New Sherlock is just bonkers and quite fun on a Sunday night when I've been at the morphine.
