Aria from Layer Cake by Lisa Gerrard

Plunkett and Macleane soundtrack is pretty cool, the last 10 minutes of the film is awesome; the music just works so well.

Amelie - Yann Tiersen (this is a bit of the incidental music) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyCRJmerW1Q
The whole Amelie score album is quite, quite terrific smile
+1 great film and soundtrack. In fact I think I might fire up the DVD and watch that again soon.

First time I watched it I though meh ok. On repeated viewing I loved it. Score is great but OST is also good.

The scene with John Cale's Big white cloud and Jeremy Piven is fantastic. The track fits it so well

And the new captain kirk moving sitting on top of Ben Afflec( his only decent film role ) to Ennio Morricone

Another great one from Ron Goodwin - Where Eagles Dare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XKGhG0W0LQ

Ennio Morricone - Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo (not the main theme but I don't care): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PwpOmjAu1M

John Williams is a great composer, but he does rather seem to write the same song over and over again.

Beyond brilliant; film and score both. And a rich mine of great lines.

Another film theme that is quite emotional is James Horner's for Apollo 13

Local Hero - Mark Knopfler, as already mentioned.

Shaun of the Dead is pretty good.

Little Shop of Horrors was a favourite for me, and I am rediscovering it now.

Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack is excellent.

March of the Penguins soundtrack is a regular mellow-out listen for me.

I like musicals so lots of "soundtrack" albums of those are good - but in these cases the music is a crucil element of the story and not just something written to help with the mood of the film.

So, ignoring musicals and operas, I would suggest most themes by John Barry, John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Hermann, Ennio Morricone and Ron Goodwin would be up there for quality.
