Big Brother was very much a missed social opportunity right from the outset. Merely applying to go on it should have been used as an extension to Darwin's theory. They should all have been herded off and made to "disappear".

Absolute drivel, full of brain dead morons and targeted at the same demographic.

You can add Pop Idol, X-Factor, Britain's Got Talent and myriad other programmes that have come along since to the list too.
The worrying thing is that these seem to be the most popular programmes on TV.

Not much hope for us really.curse

OK........ I have watched every series of BB.

Entertainment wise (for those that liked it to start with) the quality has gone down big time. It was mainly good for conflict and in the last 4 or 5 years or so it really has really calmed down as the producers are too scared to let things kick off (after the jade goody incidents).

I always found it interesting because as long as it was different people every year I liked seeing how different people behave and act in different situiations. I also just like seeing what other kind of people are out there, even if they were morons as some people think (although i imagine BB edit out all the normal stuff and obviously focus on certain types of things)

I would agree though it has come to the end of its natural life now.

I also watch the X FACTOR for slightly different reasons. Although its a world away from the heavy rock/metal type of music I like listeneing to its always good to have a laugh at the audition stages. I dont much like the live singing bits now because x factor people interfere too much and make it over produced.

i think the crying shame with a program liek the x factor is that if they played it differently there really are a lot of decent musicians out there worth listening ti - but of course they have just made it soppy mainstream stuff.

See I think they could have got another 5 years out of it, I do agree though, it has been tamed down somewhat in the more recent series!

The producers have largely killed it with silly mistakes - they do lots of stupid things that dont quite work out very well in realit, prime example is giving josie the golden ticket, it all just fell flat on its face

a basic change they could make is vote to save everyone everyweek so the crapper characters go out first.

The producers definitely fiddle with it too much and I would've preferred they went more down the psychology route than entertainment. What really killed it though was that after one series everyone had a vague idea of what the media coverage and reaction would be. It didn't really get past that.

But they never are different people (from what I hear and the brief bits I see). It's so formulaic it's untrue, but the masses just seem to soak it up.

All these shows have the shouty one, the ditzy one, the gay one, the nasty one, the pervy/hot one, the one with a "sad" background story, the deliberately contrary one. All of them.

Fundamentally it's full of a bunch of mongs for everyone else to gawk at and think "I'm better than them", and preferably to get attached to to the extent that plenty of people will phone in on premium rate numbers to make the owners of the format rich.

The programmes are like drugs, the viewers addicts and the makers dealers. Good riddance to BB, it's just a shame that there seems to be a never ending line of replacements (again, just like drugs).

thing is they ARE different people every year. although you can stereotype people it just shows how wrong you can be about people sometimes.

i did think there was a market for just putting in older 'intelligent' people and seeing how it goes, but i guess ultimatley the same type of stuff will always be shown
