Life after 'The Wire' - What now?
Discussion
I have just finished the final season of The Wire (having bought the complete season box set a number of months ago).
'Outstanding' springs to mind, and I have to rate it alongside Band of Brothers as the best TV drama I have seen.
I now have a problem - Is there anything that I can watch that will even come close to The Wire in terms of a viewing experience?
Someone has suggested The Shield as being in the same ball park quality wise, but I am open to suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

watched the wire a few months ago - outstanding is a good word for it
Currently watching the shield (just finished 1st series) I'm not sure many things will compete with the wire, but it is pretty good and seems to be getting better...
I have breaking bad yet to watch..excellent reviews
Other than BOB only other to compete with the wire is the sopranos..different but equally as outstanding!
On my shopping list;
OZ
Deadwood
There is also new one coming out on HBO (so hope Sky show it soon) end Sept called Boadwalk Empire (martin scorcese is a producer) - just noticed Omar from the wire is in it..

Was in the same boat a few weeks ago, someone recommended Life, and seeing as I liked Damian Lewis in Band of Brothers, gave it a shot.
It is a little formulaic (finds a body, solves a case) but the acting is pretty good and there is a fair bit of humour involved - shame it only made 2 seasons.
Worth a download if nothing else.

I'm in the same boat after watching the wire 3rd time round. Will have to give the shield a try.
I do have homoside:life on the street on the hdd which is written by david simon(who wrote the wire) although old it does look pretty good I'll watch a few more eps before I give a proper judgement.

Shield, Underbelly, Generation Kill.
The Shield is faster paced, but the main protagonists are brilliant characters with great dialogue - the plot just keeps on writhing for 7 seasons.
Underbelly is a snapshot of tha Melbourne gang wars between mid-90's and early 00's; again, superb characters and dialogue.
Generation Kills is based on gulf War 1, and the explots of a company of Marines during the early days. Same set up as The Wire - same writers etc. Very very good - even if you're not into 'war-y' stuff. Very realistic and thought provoking.
