Just watched 'Gomorrah' and 'A Prophet'.
Gomorrah was just like slipping into a new world, very good indeed.
A Prophet was also superb, well worth a watch as well, great acting. I speak French fluently and spent a lot of time amongst 'les barbu' and 'les Corse', the slang in the film is terrific and the characterisations are spot on.
Five stars each, and a refreshing change from the mainstream.
Allez, casse-toi.

On a not disimlar note, I'm quite surprised (although I know this isn't "The Lounge") that no-one's mentioned "Baise Moi"?
Why, because it's a porno loosely marketed as a legitimate movie? I thought it was terrible. There are a million better French films that actually are tasteful, well made, funny and thought-provoking.zac510 said:

'Hors de Prix' ('Priceless') is very, very good. It's a romantic comedy, but it's a cut above the usual stuff we would class as such. Very stylish, well filmed and none of the comedy is lost in translation at all. Excellent
And that's not all - it's got Audrey Tautau in it, looking awesome from start to finish, which should be reason enough for the average PHer!
Yeah its a great film. And Audrey Tautou does look AMAZING throughout! And that's not all - it's got Audrey Tautau in it, looking awesome from start to finish, which should be reason enough for the average PHer!
The Wave (Die Welle) is also good as well as "Karthik calling Karthik" which is a very watchable Bollywood film about a schizophrenic man who's 'new' persona is mega confident and gets him places.
