I quite like Goodbye Lenin. It is kind of funny, yet sad at the same time. And it was the first German film I watched and actually understood!! Well mostly anyway tongue out

On a not disimlar note, I'm quite surprised (although I know this isn't "The Lounge") that no-one's mentioned "Baise Moi"?
Why, because it's a porno loosely marketed as a legitimate movie? I thought it was terrible. There are a million better French films that actually are tasteful, well made, funny and thought-provoking.
Err, hence my comment acknowledging this isn't in The Lounge.
Well then you shouldn't be surprised! smile

I love these foreign films. Too many to mention, I could be here for days. I am a member of the BFI but only go once a month or so.

I just caught a French thriller called Le Serpent on film 4.

Really kept me on the edge of my seat, plus it has the added benefit of Olga Kurylenko in various stages of undress and lingerie modellIng. Great film.

The Experiment, which is about the Stanford prison experiment. Eye opening and a bit disturbing.

Être et Avoir. Simple but moving film about kids in primary school in rural France. Sublime. You will 'blub' at the end scene.
Anything originally written by Marcel Pagnol.

I enjoyed that too, there was also another French film that I saw recently called 'Cockles & Muscles' (Cote d'Azur) that was very funny!

Enjoyed all four Taxi films, although they get slowly worse as they progress laugh

La Reine Margot was also very good, and although not a film, the German series "Steiner" is an interesting look at WW2 from the eyes of a German soldier.

Crimson Rivers - a bit confusing at times but a good film none the less. First time I've seen Jean Reno speaking French!

Bullet in the head. It's a Hong Kong made John woo fim from circa 1990.
