Discussion
any tips?
current have L tv,bband and telephone. Seem to be be almost doubling the bill each month with phone charges though so i suppose xl is the way to go.
Want a hd and preferably a v+ box - is the v+box only available with xl tv?
sooo looking at xl all round really - any tips on getting a better deal than is on the website? will it make a diff if i ring tomorrow the last day of the month?
thanks!

Well if you just wanted to get it cheaper I would have said to phone up and ask to cancel but if you ask to cancel saying it is too expensive and then go on to upgrade the package you would look a little silly.
I would just phone up and ask them straight what they can do for you and hope you get a nice lady that you can chat with and comment on her lovely voice etc Explain the same as what you have here about the price going up and see what they recomend based on what you want then ask what kind of speacial offers they can do for you or the box for free etc.

Go onto the Sky website and use their planner to select a deal. Phone Virgin, tell them what Sky will do for a new customer and ask them to show some loyalty to a loyal customer. Worked for us, got a load of money of our bill.
This.Just remember to select the "Thinking of leaving Virgin Media" option when you call them. This will put you through to the retentions department as opposed to the sales team. If you select the option just to change your plan then you won't get as good a deal as you would with retentions.

Another one worth noting. If you receive your broadband through your set top box (no extra modem) then your speed is probably limited and you may be paying more to get less than others! The set top box is only any good for up to 10Mb but you'll be charged more than the 20Mb rate for it! Worse still, some customers have been being charged the higher rate even when they have a modem! I got a friend of mine a £90 refund and a load off of their bill due to this cock up!
So check your broadband deals folks, the set top box rate is only a few pounds a month less than the 50Mb service yet you get so much less!
