I didn't watch The Pacific either, just couldn't get into it.
Oh dear. Much pissing on chips. I'll reserve judgement until I've finished the series. So far so good, but I'm a bit of a BoB we, going so far as to visit some of the places from the series.
I've bivvied the night in relic foxholes in the woods overlooking Foy. Pretty special night
Really? Solo mission or trip? links?
WOW sounds really cool.
My brother and I did a 12 day road trip round Europe in 2008. We drove across France and Switzerland wild camping, filmed an Italian Job tribute on the St Bernard Pass, had a lively night in Milan, drove the Stelvio into Austria, went hut to hut walking in the Dachstein, then headed north through Bavaria and Luxembourg.

The final stop was a visit to museums at Paschendale, and Bastogne. Having watched BofB at least 10 times each we decided to try and find the wood overlooking Foy.

There is a small plaque placed by the survivors of Easy Company next to a forest plantation, so we went for a look around.

The forest was littered with relic foxholes, particularly along the perimeter. The majority were fairly shallow having subsided over the years, but we found four or five deep ones.

The view down the hill to Foy is very similar to the set used in the series. In fact the series represented the wood so well we felt like we knew it.

As it was starting to get dark we decided to maintain the wild camping theme that we'd followed throughout the trip. We hid the car in the trees well away from the road

It was my brother's turn to cook

Once it got dark we dug out the bivvy bags. Rob woke up the following morning before me...

I haven't ever posted these pics up before because I expected a TECKNOPLUG style response. We owe a debt of gratitude to so many people of that generation. The likelihood is that I will never be asked to make the sacrifices they did. For me sleeping overnight there was a humbling experience, and very difficult to describe. But I'm glad I did it.

I would hate for it to become a big thing though with lots of people tramping all over the site.
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. Could you send me some more pics and co-ords please? I'd like to go.

This the Easy company memorial. Put these co ordinates into google map: 50.028317,5.756503

The foxholes are here; 50.033631,5.752228

If you drag the yellow man about on google map you'll see lots of pics uploaded, and some shots from the series, or else a very good re enactment.

I think the Russians would disagree.

Generally, the war in the west was more "civilised (if war can ever be described in that way) than the war on the Eastern Front.
Care to expand?

No respect between the combatants - therefore very little quarter given regarding humanity.

Read "Armageddon" by Max Hastings and you'll get the picture.

I've just finished watching the pacific and I agree with the OP, it's absolutely awesome. The soundtrack, visuals and story are all awesome. You really need a decent setup to get the most out of it, but I was cacking it every time there was a bombing run.
Never watched BOB although I prob will.

I think you've inspired me to do a similar trip! I've always wanted to camp in the woods over looking Foye with it snowing too just to have some sense of what it was like there.

Anyone know if it's possible to rent a motorbike in England or in France?

Back to the Pacific I thought it was ok (still havnt finished watching it though) but it was lacking that element where you get attached to the characters. I think it was hard to tell who's who from time to time and you probably need to watch the whole series a few times ala BOB to get a real sense of it.

I think the problem with the pacific is it goes almost straight into combat, with BoB you got a chance to learn who was who during the first few episodes when they were in training etc.

I quite liked the pacific.

Band of brothers however, can't tell you how many times I've watched it. Dear god it's good.

Bastogne is utterly terrifying.

The one on the right, I can't make out what it says on that other pic above.
