Is the Sagaris in swordfish a chase? when trovolta stands up out of the roof with two machineguns. Fantastic.

Vanishing point, mainly because the whole film is one long car chase.

p.s Can somebody correct the title? It's hurting my eyes.

We just watched "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" this evening and towards the end Nicolas Cage is drving this nice looking oldtimer chasing a bad guy in a new york taxi.

However they both need to go faster and since they're both sorcerers they tap on the roof on the car and the taxi turns into this :

And Cage's car turns into an SLR, who chases the Ferrari through down town New york.

However also just found this article about the ferrari driver losing control and injurying to bystanders, oops :

The original Gumball rally.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnl4Y-nYdJE

Love it after 3:40 secs when you see the Cobra out-dragging the Daytona.

Does the Rendez-Vous count?
If not the start of the cannonball run, or the start to the Italian job.
C'était un Rendezvous, its a brilliant little piece of film making. from what i recall from film studies, (awaits the mocking for taking a mickey mouse a-level for easy ucas points) Claude Lelouch just strapped a camera to the front of his car and gave it the beans with the camera strapped low to add to the sense of speed to make the film, it works really well even if the dubbing is a tad obvious.
perhaps not a movie car chase but in terms of a piece of automotive cinema its well up there.

So hard to decide between them all:

The Italian Job is probably my favourite.
Ronin is fantastic.
The Mini chase in Bourne is great.
Love Death Proof, the whole second half of the film.
Most of Gone in 60 Seconds (both of them), too, and of course, Bullitt.

Vanishing Point and The Blues Brothers.

Rendezvous is st. It's badly dubbed and he's not even going fast.

Awesome chase from The Seven Ups (1973). Features Bill Hickman, better known for his work as the driver of the black Dodge Charger in Bullitt! I reckon it's a better chase than Bullitt but doesn't feature quite as exotic cars.

The opening chase scene from Mad Max is pretty good too.

My favourite chase isn't a car chase. Its the chase on foot in Point break with Keanu Reeves chasing Patrick Swayzee through back gardens and houses etc. It does start with cars though, although the lasts part on foot is the best bit.

Needs to be viewed full screen for the full effect

Has anyone seen this film

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XkDiQV_OdY

As a film it really is crap B-movie grade in terms of plot, script and acting but if you are interested in seeing a film which features a Carrera GT vs a Ferrari Enzo Vs a Ford GT racing on city streets and desert roads then this film is tops just for the race\chase footage alone. Ignore the rest of the film and just enjoy the car porn (the girl in it's not bad looking either)

Was going to say Vanishing point, but actually Last Action Hero demonstrates the american car chase scene distilled down to its pure essence. The music, the dynamite, the car fishtailing as it pulls away... pure class.
