What a bummer.More of a wake than a comedy.

Wasn't the best that has ever been done but, I suppose it had to be hastily re-written when the actor who played Mel died. Its a bit difficult when they are not there from the beginning, making up an 'away death' scenario.

Hopefully the new series should be better, not sure if Johnny Vagas is back.

I too hope it gets better ,this Christmas special was very weak and not up to their usual standard,i found myself looking for something "funny" but just being left disappointed.

You know it is bad when half the cast don't bother turning up (Geoffrey Hutchings excepted).

I did enjoy the first couple of series, but also wondered how it would fare in the long run with such one dimensional characters. The xmas special was really dire.

Really looking forward to this but it was a total dissapointment. To be fair I had forgotten about Mel's death but the story was weak and disjointed with a cast just a raggle taggle remnant of the original. Forgot to check the credits but was this one written by the same team?

Why didn't the hotel receptionist recognise any of them when they checked in?

First 2 series were well cast and produced with lots of sharp British comedy moments IMHO.

Apparently there's anew series to come - Just hope they can get their act together!!

Jonny Vegas isn't in it anymore either is he. I hadn't realised that the guy who played Mel had died until the end.

My thoughts precisely. We both like the programme normally, but we looked at each other at the end and both expressed what a disappointment it was.

The gay couple too, plus the daughter of Mick Garvey and her kid Coolio.

I thought it was poor too.

Very poor indeed.

I thought I would give it a watch last night despite the comments here.

It's normally very funny. I guess with a co-actor passing away, they decided to go easy & rightly so.

yes

Has all the toys, but you don't need to get the manual out to figure out how to use them.

Familiar.

More like "what" was missing - I'd venture any semblance of comedy, decent script etc.

Getting very bored of "Christmas specials". I get the sense the writers sit writing them after the previous year's Christmas dinner. Stuffed and bloated on the sofa, needing to churn something out and the end result is garbage.

They need to admit when the franchise has had its day and come up with something new.

Did anyone watch the first of the new series last night?

It took a while to get going as the scene was set and some new characters where introduced. Once it got into its stride there were some very funny lines in the second half although if you didn't like the original then I doubt this episode will change your point of view hehe

I'm sure it'll be on the ITV player if anyone missed it.
