Yep. And it would have been funny if it hadn't been repeated 100 million times every time someone criticises Top Gear on PH.
Rich, did you know that Top Gear is scripted??

I fear SIARPC is going to stay for several reasons.
1. It fills a gap in the show and saves them having to think up something else to fill a 10 minute segment.
2. There are always guests plugging something and use it to further their earnings a bit and all to ready to have a go even though they are not interested in cars..
3. The BBC have always had guests on various other programmes and they see this as no different just an excuse to have the 'star slot'
4. It gives them TV time using the track and film crew who are already there filming the tyre smoking scenes from other pieces. If they are there for the day they have to make the most of it.

Maybe they should change it to IPIARPC and have an Interesting Person instead, somebody who is connected to the motor industry, racing world, motoring media, photographers, petrolhead stars rather than the next 'star' who calls the office wanting to go on to plug their latest thing.

Some of the best moments of top gear have been the star in a car but only when it is an interesting person.

Were you one of the many who were pleased to see pianos 'accidentally' dropped on various Morris Marinas?

...smile

Look at it this way ..... Just another Bavarian Sierra or two .....common as muck round my neck of the woods in recent years ~ every other car seems to be one and usually silver too...

If true, it's a splendid ploy to get even more controversy an added interest for the programme .... far more BMW users in UK roads than Marina enthusiasts ... more power to their wossnames... wink

Rarely wish one's life away but, roll on Next sunday ~ Currently watching the excellent snooker in the Top Gear slot on BBC2 at the mo.

Great idea. I'd love to see Adrian Newey on the slot. And maybe some British racing champions- that offshore powerboat champion and mate of Clarkson, maybe some from different race series- Prialux, McNish, Dario (especially the latter)maybe even someone like Vic Elford or Brian Redman

Oh, does anyone remember the bad press when Daniel Craig was announced as Bond, and they said that when he did the laps, he had to use an automatic?? Did this ever happen? I cant find reference to it anywhere, and dont remember it.

I think you're getting two things mixed up here. It was Christopher Ecclestone that did the lap in an auto car- Daniel Craig can't drive manuals either and drove a specially converted auto RS6 in the film Layer Cake.

Does he ever drive the RS6 in Layer Cake? Thought it was always Morty.

Looks like they smash up a 156 with some sort of tank thing in this series as well frown but hey ho, what can you do?

FTR, I don't like it when they smash any car up to be honest, I was brought up to regard wanton destruction as deplorable. A few years ago Clarkson smashed up a mint maserati Bi-turbo. I was quite unhappy at that tbh. But I look forward to this series of TG purely for the car porn when they are not acting the fool and/or destroying things

1/6, series 16

At the climax of the Christmas special, in which the TG presenters motored across the desert to Bethlehem, they found there, lying in a stable, not the baby Jesus but a tiny newborn Stig. It was a lovely sight gag and a typically cheeky "on that bombshell..." to end with. For fans, it also signalled that, far from the whole Stig idea going up in flames (after previous incumbent Ben Collins unmasked himself), a new "tame racing driver" would materialise for this, the 16th series of the show, and a million key-rings, figurines and T-shirts would be safe from landfill.
Whoever New Stig is, he/she/it gets to grips with a Star in a Reasonably Priced Car tonight, as comedian John Bishop takes to the track.
Meanwhile, Clarkson, Hammond and May take on their opposite numbers from Australian Top Gear in a (belated, frankly) car-based version of the Ashes, with contests including rallying, drifting and an Aussie version of double-decker car racing. It's the tyres I feel sorry for.
John Bishop as the SIARPC? Hmmmm, today's guest didn't take a lot of work searching by the production team, they only looked as far as the canteen at lunchtime....
Don't get me wrong I like JB but it looks like they are just picking somebody who is flavour of last year and he has been on just about every other Beeb product.
