Don't forget TOD was first released in 1985, and was up against stuff like Gremlins, Goonies, Back to the Future, a host of Arnie-shaped ste and a lot of other glitzy offerings cast in a more traditional Hollywood mould.
The mid-80s weren't bulging with ground-breaking movies so the Indy franchise went for the safe option between the heavily occult-fuelled Nazi-bashing Raiders and Last Crusade.
Look at the Bond offering from the same era (Octopussy), it's just as "bad", but equally of its time.

Except it wasn't safe, it was quite dark and attacked (still heavily edited nowadays) at the time for being so. Child being 'possessed', heart sacrifice, burning people alive etc.

Steven Spielbergs wife you mean?
Kate Capshaw
I well fancied her when she was in that film about dreams that I've mostly forgotten.

Dennis Quaid in it as well, possibly?
yes

While at home watching it I distinctly remember my brother accusing me of getting a stiffy over her when it came out. I ran off upstairs to tame the beast.

Ok so it's the weakest of the original trilogy, but your worst film ever? I think you need to watch the likes of The Room, Mortal Kombat Annihilation or Robocop 3 to see what a real bad bit of film making is
They didn't exactly up the game with the Crystal Skull though did they!
No they certainly didn't, but whilst Crystal Skull is a mediocre film it's nowhere near the worst ever

Well, it is certainly showing it's age. Still watchable though.

I've seen it loads of times and this was the first time I noticed the 'Obi Wan' club. I've checked imdb and it doesn't list it but I'm fairly certain the man that ushers them on to the flight at the beginning is Anthony Daniels (C-3PO in Star Wars). Well, at least the voice sounded like his.

I thought he sounded like Anthony Daniels too, but didn't look like him from the quick glimpse you get of him?

the worst of the first three by a long long way....

SS was quoted as saying he got the heroine totally wrong (it's his wife btw) and thought he was making it more exciting by making her scream aver two minutes when all it did in reality was annoy ppl.

not one of his best...

Did I read somewhere they are looking at making another one next year?

I still havent decided if I liked Crystal Skull or not, only seen it the once anyway.

I thought short round (was that his name, the kid sidekid) was painful, but the rest of TOD wasnt that bad.

Not a patch on Ark or Crusade though, both Ace in my opinion, especially Crusade.

Just watched it, I don't know who were they?

Noticed that the picture of the plane Indy leaves China in has the Great Wall in it, but then the map shows he is heading South from Shanghaibiggrin
