Don't forget TOD was first released in 1985, and was up against stuff like Gremlins, Goonies, Back to the Future, a host of Arnie-shaped s
te and a lot of other glitzy offerings cast in a more traditional Hollywood mould.
The mid-80s weren't bulging with ground-breaking movies so the Indy franchise went for the safe option between the heavily occult-fuelled Nazi-bashing Raiders and Last Crusade.
Look at the Bond offering from the same era (Octopussy), it's just as "bad", but equally of its time.

While at home watching it I distinctly remember my brother accusing me of getting a stiffy over her when it came out. I ran off upstairs to tame the beast.

I've checked imdb and it doesn't list it but I'm fairly certain the man that ushers them on to the flight at the beginning is Anthony Daniels (C-3PO in Star Wars). Well, at least the voice sounded like his.

I still havent decided if I liked Crystal Skull or not, only seen it the once anyway.
I thought short round (was that his name, the kid sidekid) was painful, but the rest of TOD wasnt that bad.
Not a patch on Ark or Crusade though, both Ace in my opinion, especially Crusade.
