Seems we're in for a big summer of big screen action and the trailers are all starting to appear. We've got a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie and a third Transformers film which should be interesting although no Megan Fox and no Keira Knightly. Shame.

The lesser known Marvel bunch also take a bow with Captain America and Thor set to join Hulk and Ironman in the Avengers series before they all star together in a few years time. I've also seem interesting trailers for Cowboys & Aliens with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig and a new mysterious film from JJ Abrams (Cloverfield, Star Trek) called Super 8 that no-one seems to know a thing about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR_9A-cUEJc - Pirates

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPRv4Out7X8 - Transformers, looks a little darker than last time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpaXaL9OxYc - Captain America (an unknown(ish) in the title role)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fx-XFAxc2Y - Thor (another unknown in the title)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu5dLtRnaOY - Super 8 (not a clue!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH7KZD5vGBY - Cowboys and Aliens

Any other "big" movies for this summer that anyone is looking forward to?

Wouldn't say Chris Evans (Captain America) is unknown, having been major characters in fantastic four, push, losers and sunshine.

Most of those will be getting me to the cinema this year though - thank god for the unlimited card!

Very little on IMDB about Super 8. There may be more on the professional site.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1650062/

But I am looking forward to Cowboys and aliens bounce

Other films to note this year are:

True Grit: looks interesting, I liked the original and I like the Coen's stuff (very Marmite they are too!).
http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1984862489/

The African Queen is an utterly fabulous film starring two of the Hollywood greats and I think deserves viewing on the big screen. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043265/

Red Riding Hood looks suitably odd. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1486185/

And we can't forget the final HP. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1201607/

With Gary Oldman as George Smiley, this should be an interesting remake.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1340800/

Spielberg is doing Tintin (maybe I should rephrase that...hehe)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0983193/

The new Sherlock Holmes will be out at the back end of the year too.

Transformers always makes me laugh, people complain it'll be rubbish and all action, semi-naked girls, suffer a complete lack of plot and be typical Micheal Bay....

...but isn't that the bloody point?! I don't exactly go to see a film based around toys to challenge my brain. Love it! biggrin

Having all those excellent actors and keeping to the period, it should be a fine version. Quite looking forward to it actually.

Sure, why not, it didn't hurt Matthew Broderick's career making a movie based around Tic Tac Toe hehe

A lot of films have been based on less, 'high concept' films...they usually tend to be ste, but Pirates was based on a theme ride and turned out to be ace.
Films based on video games though are usually tosh.
