True Blood....
Discussion
Just a quick Heads-Up...
True Blood season 4, which is currently airing in the US, comes to the UK in January 2012 on FX.
Yep - thats right - JANUARY 2012
Is it any wonder that by the time it actually gets shown over here most UK fans will have watched it on the Internet where its showing now!!!
It occurs to me that this is self-defeating from the point of view of the makers HBO. Presumably they want to maximise their income with this program which means they have to sell it to TV channels (ie FX) around the globe who then have to sell advertising space that will ultimately be shown to you and me in the ad breaks.
If we've already seen the bloody program on-line its unlikely we'll watch the series again ergo ratings will be low for the FX channel who in turn wont pay HBO much for it...
Or am I missing a trick?
I know this is why the release date of Movies in the US is now only a day or two ahead of their release date over here...to counter the lost sales through pirate DVD's etc.
TV companies don't seem to be keeping up though - last nights Torchwood was a prime example. Shown in the US last Friday, my son watched it on-line on Saturday morning and so didn't bother watching it last night on the BBC.
I know the beeb don't do advertising but they do chase ratings...as they are required to justify the license fee.
So what gives? Why the delay in TV programs being shown? It seems absurd.
