...To treat its viewers like complete idiots. im sick of bbc and sky. russia today offered a little restbite until i saw it doing a little panick mongering this morning.

is there a news channel that just gives the facts as they are and doesn just blab on pointlessly speculating and not backing upstatements with not just facts but figured too.
i.e russia today keep comparing toyoko to cheynoble.... fk is it any thing like that clusterfk of a melt down.

do i have any options or shoul i just not bother watching the news and get m info elsewhere?
Based on the quality of this post, I would expect the level of the BBC News Channel coverage to be pitched just about right for you.

I admit my post quality is appauling today in both spelling and grammer, whilst also being poorly researched and presented.

But the core point still remains... tv news is patronising and dumbs information down far too much, and over repeats that same info adnausium.

You cannot be expected to be an expert in all subjects and I understand that some people won't understand some subject. Buuuuut I am of average (at best) intelligence and think that most news bulletins could go into quite a bit more detail, not to mention be better reported and just report the facts without any agenda.

Why, if they are doing a story about gas, do we need to see a gas hob being lit? I know what gas looks like. Any story about fuel is done from a filling station and why when there is an aerial shot is there the sound of a helicopter dubbed over it?

I've practically given up on the TV news channels.

Radio 4 in the morning whilst flossing ('today' programme) and in the evening whilst driving home ('pm') are much better imo.

...and why does a BBC News (or ITN for that matter)reporter on Government policy have to stand outside the Houses of Parliament or Whitehall offices, in the dark, after hours, and report to camera there instead of in a warm studio? Why does every report on the 7/7 atrocities inquest have to be delivered from the place where the bus was blown up - it's more than five years since anything worth seeing happened there? No wonder the licence fee is so high...

If you have an apple device, there is an Al Jazeera app,

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/al-jazeera-english-...

And you can watch it live. Quite nice little app. Watching on ipad, and it looks quite decent at full screen. It tends to have little opinion news, and just tells you what has happened, etc.

whats also annoying is when showing footage they insist on covering half the screen with useless graphics and idents that always seem to be right over something you want to see.

I like NewsNow.co.uk - its a news portal but lets you find the same event reported on by many news sources and then you can draw your own conclusions by taking the median responses biggrin

Press TV, the Iranian news channel is always good with the geroge galloway show.

Live on Thursdays at 9.33pm
Repeated on Fridays at 2.06am. 6.06am, and 1.33pm

God I want to punch him, watch it you will want to punch him too.

Anyhow I watch fox for the chicks, aljazeera for some news until they start talking about muslim rights, RTV (russian news) until they start to talk about the west and capitalism, france 24 is good but they are obsessed with African news especially their old colonies etc.

CCTV is Chinese and actually seems somewhat balanced, NHK is Japanese and seems good too.

The ideal thing to do is flick between them all, they all have an agenda but by flicking you may get an average view.

Seconded. The rolling news banners are a real pain.

The Japanese quake and tsunami footage from NHK has its own Japanese graphics which, when they add on the BBC/Sky banners and graphics almost completely obliterates the actual footage.

First of all let me confess a certain bias: my is a journo on ITN and has just flown out to Japan to report on their troubles.

But I think there is little doubt that out of the British news outlets, including Sky, ITN is the best if you want news without too much unsubstantiated speculation.
