It is cheesy, faked, a little tacky, and bears little resemblance to reality.
GREAT television for petrolheads
GREAT fun
I bloody love it.
And, yes, you can pick up really useful stuff watching Mr China.
I think thats my take on it too. As long as you dont take it to seriously then its fine. As opposed to showing you 'exactly' how to do it and think it gives the idea or at least the motivation to try it. The saab seems to me that the budget for this series was maybe running a little thin and this was just to fill in so to speakGREAT television for petrolheads

oldoutyeeraaand, you got yourself a deal
funny how he always takes the second offer
funny how he always takes the second offer
And always sells to the second buyer.
And always buys the second car he looks at.
And always plays down how much work there is for Ed to do.
And always accuses Ed of having done nothing to the car half way through.
And always says he won't let it go for below £x. And then does.
But its great TV.
I think the thread with the Wheeler Dealer drinking game was brilliant and did inspire me to sit and watch an episode with a pint. I was 8 fingers down within the first five minutes and definitely found the show more amusing.
If you take it too seriously it is easy to get bored/irritated by the show but if take it at face value, try and laugh at Mike and learn from Ed then it's a good show plus.
It would be good though if Ed did give an insight into how long some jobs take and stressed that his air gun collection and ramps are what make the majority of jobs look so easy. Try doing the same jobs lying on your back with the car a foot in the air on axle stands and they quickly lose their appeal.

For all it,s faults I like Wheeler Dealers, probably only reason I,ve got cable. They did a 928 a while back (got one) they did almost everything to that car, but the most important thing they seemed to miss was the cambelt ! pretty serious when you consider the car had no service record and had been off the road a number of years ? wonder why they did,nt catch up with the owner, in their recent catch ups ?
probably because it was never sold to the "buyer" - just ends up on ebay after a while in storage.
Original point was that an 02 Saab Cab is not a modern classic, which this show is meant to be about, a nice car granted - we had a 2.3 version - but its never really going to be a classic - nor that scooby he did.
When are we going to see some proper modern classics again like Mk2 XR2's Mk3 XR3's, Marina's Monza's etc

I know wheeler dealers is a farce, but enjoy the Ed bit and seeing the classics they work on - but come on, last night's episode featured a bog standard 02 Saab 9-3 cab - hardly a classic, modern or otherwise.
Come on brewer, theres so many more modern classics you could be working on finding, the list is long - pull your finger out!
Yeah some of the car choices are st. I heard once that the cars are chosen by the production team and Edd and Mike don't have any input. Given that Edd is an associate (or is it executive) producer I suspect that it isn't true but you'd think they could find something betterCome on brewer, theres so many more modern classics you could be working on finding, the list is long - pull your finger out!

You should check out the Haynes manuals, if you managed to learn how to swap throttle bodies and brakes from watching Wheeler Dealers I'd expect that equipped with a manual building custom engines would be child's play!
I didn't say it taught me how to do everything but it helped, it showed that a lot of the mechanical stuff isn't that hard afterall and i thought fk it, i'm going to have a go at some of that. I did need the haynes manual for the throttle body swap but even that wasn't very hard.John.

At least I managed to learn a couple of things from it.
1) Saabs crack their bulkheads (Convertibles only?).
2) You can get a OBD reader for under £50 - Looks an interesting tool to keep. I also like the logger thing as well.
That's what i took from it too, I suppose if you have the logger, you wouldn't need the reader as well?1) Saabs crack their bulkheads (Convertibles only?).
