Mr Huhne is allowed three months of his £68,827 ministerial salary, worth £17,207. This is additional to his £65,738 salary as Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh in Hampshire.

The 17k allowance is because as an ex-Minister he is unable to take paid employment for a period of time for various reasons.

I think he should be charged bed and breakfast rates when he is inside, if that added up to 17k it would be karma.

They all do this scam, Blunkett claimed it twice when he had to resign twice. Of course it all came out in the wash that the first time he'd claimed it and still got some paid employment within the designated time.

These are the first rules that should be changed, he shouldn't be allowed to take an outside job, he's paid 70K a year to represent his constituency. If you are an MP then other than being a minister if chosen that should be your only job.
