the human rights act was brought into play to stop jokers like hitler from taking out a generation of jews. not so some lying somalian can live in kensington in a 3 million quid house with his 10 kids. you might have signed up to that but I certainly didnt - and its the european courts that have extended the ambit and mutated articles 2,3 and 8 (specifically) so as the echr as it now is has gone beyond what it was designed for.

come over here on a visitors visa and dont go back? no problem, get up the duff by a british citizen and we will take care of you.

come over here and run someone over? then maybe leg it from the scene? no problem. have a kid with a brit cit, and well take care of you.

come over here to study at the oxford street college of excellence doing a certificate in plant potting but your foreign spouse (who comes over as your dependant) isnt entitled to work? dont worry about the rules (which you were aware of when you applied for entry clearance) - sue the government instead to get you wife the right to work.

come over here as a doctor and forge your right to work documentation? cause a health scare? go ahead. when the government try and boot you out for this crime, we'll give you legal aid for that ,too.

in fact, all of the above - we'll give you legal aid. would you like me to go on?

4 months later and no doubt at considerable legal cost we can finally deport this man back to Israel. Good riddance.

More great work by the UK Borders Agency. If you're a Brit returning from holiday abroad they'll treat you like a bit of st on their shoe. If you're a bogus asylum seeker/migrant however then they'll just.....

MPs have accused the UK Border Agency (UKBA) of losing track of a population of asylum seekers and migrants equivalent to the size of Cambridge. The Home Affairs Select Committee said 124,000 asylum seeker and immigration cases had been "dumped" in an archive, with the agency giving up on them.

Bit rich of the Government knocking the agency, it's the Government who signed up to all sorts of stupid ( mainly Euro ) laws which have removed the ability to police the system. even if they knew all 100K plus the system to remove them is so long , it's not going to happen.

TBH trying to deport these people, even if we found them would just cost us a lot of money just to find out that it's against their 'uman rights.

Blame it on whinging passengers. iF they did through cehcks on everyone queues woudl be longer and they would need thousands of more staff - that much was pretty obvious from watching 'UK BORDER FORCE'.

I have difficulty understanding the stupidity of calling it the "UK Border Agency".

Borders are land-based political boundaries.

We're a fking island for fk's sake.
The UK also has a land border.

You obviously don't travel much. I fly abroad every other week which inevitably means that I fly home. The reception on arrival is much better than the majority of European countries that I visit regularly.

That said, the UKBA do a lot of things badly, not in the least preventing skilled & experienced talent from coming to the UK and contributing.

Even with electronic data collecting technology, no border, not even a sea ferry port, can be 100% full proof.

Under the last Labour government, UKBA were having their resources cut back, with experience staff being made redundant, and less experience staff filling their positions.

I once remember on a Dover bound ferry, being chatted up by an Irish speaking male. “Did I want to buy some cigarettes”, “No” I replied, “Watch customs pull me when we drive off” he informed me.

Sure enough Customs pulled his van in for a search, and also my vehicle. Three officers went through his transit van with a fine toothbrush, with one officer asking me a few questions, then allowing me on my way.

Later, as I drove up the hill away from Dover, the same white transit van, was being loaded with contraband from two parked cars.

Without the resources to pull, stop, search and question every traveler, then the UK will never have secure borders.
