I know this is the favourite paper of PHers (or not..), but does anyone find this just a bit ridiculous ?

Reading comments for a bit of banter is always amusing smile

You British are no longer an independent country but a 'European' one. You must therefore display the European flag (with pride). This is your new identity. You no longer have free will or power - Heinrich_1, ErFurt, Germany, 06/7/2011 09:30

Hmm Heinrich, where have we heard something like that before? 1940 perhaps. Don't be ridiculous, of course each EU country has it's own identity, you are just in the same boat as us...stuck in a autocratic minefield centred in Brussels. Tell your fellow countryman to do the same thing as we should...jump ship now before its too late.
Good on the danes though, a bit more on that here: http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,15205201,00.h...

I find the EU ridiculous as it stands full stop.

So many nations who hate each other trying to get on? Not likely. And other nations simply ignore those parts of the "agreements" they don't like.

So just ignore the EU fines, what are they going to do, send the EU cops around? - it's hardly rocket science.

So part of the deal for getting the EU grant (which they've spent) is flying the EU flag. I don't see what is so wrong with that, or were they forced into taking the money?

What a typical idiotic Tory misunderstanding and/or misrepresentation of the EU to describe this as an example of "bureaucracy taking over."

No it isn't Pickles, it's an example of an autocratic state seeking to instill a European identity by forcing people to display it's symbols as a prerequisite for giving those people a portion of their own money back.

And your stupid, weak government are not only powerless to do anything about it, but you're quite happy to sign up for it so long as you've got your nose in the trough, just like the tough guy Tory government of Major and Heath who signed us up for the whole st fest in the first place then acted like it was all someone else's fault.

Simple solution, fly one of these blue toilet paper flags UNDER the national flag....
Can't fly it upside down as the damn burocrats designed it so it cannot be flown the wrong way around.....

This looks promising, from further down the page. Well done Denmark! smile

The EU’s flagship commitment to free movement was ‘in tatters’ last night as Denmark imposed border controls to keep out criminals and illegal immigrants from other parts of Europe.

Punch two holes on the underside and fly it on it's side? Or scrawl skull and crossbones over it in true pirate fashion? smile

Pity about the old town... what we actually need is toxic virus that will only attack EU burocrats and MEPs and other EU twunts like RumpyPumpy and his useless baroness tosser, leaving the real people alone...

A fun car game to replace ispy if your driving around Spain or somewhere like that. It's called "Spot a new civic building that doesn't have an EU flag next to it"!

And, and, and...... the successive Labour governments tried to get us out of the EU but........oh, wait. No they didn't.

Flag protocol is complicated. So long a the EUSSR rag is flown beneath the Union Flag, or the English one, I could not give a flying fig. The Euro and all it's trimmings are doomed to fail.
