I don't know why people are going on about the next product, they've not released this one yet.

Business model is this, design and make amazing product, strip of features until it is at level where people will still buy it then release one new feature a year until orgiinal product is in marketplace.

Rinse.

Repeat.

Never had an apple product and never will. Far better phones out there with twice the features for a lot less.. As for the ipad..

I bought the wife a second hand HP tc1100? tablet for 200 quid that was produced in 2003, it can do everything a current entry spec laptop can do (and a whole lot more than an ipad and netbook) in a 11" touch screen tablet with full bluetooth and lots of other features including a dedicated nvidia gfx and upgradable HD/ram/cpu/automatic portrait or landscape.. plus its tough as nails, you can stand on the screen and still not crack!

so a tablet from 2003 can do all that yet an ipad is considered the best thing since sliced bread? /fail

Then they manage to get their users to try to lord features over you that your phone had four years ago eyt they still try to convince you that it is new and thoroughly life changing!

I don't disagree that there are other capable devices out there.

However please point out what features I'm lacking on my iPhone 4? I'm a fairly experienced developer so not afraid of getting stuck into some obscure apps, cloud sync my own iCal server, sync all my contacts to my server, run my own mail server that I have no problems working with etc... what are these features you speak of that are far better on far better phones?

I think sometimes it is more about how well/easily a product can do things over how many things it can do. Not that I have come across any restrictions using apple products..

Few questions on the HP.

Hows the warranty and hows the 3g, is the multi-touch as good? What about the battery life? I take it would last a full day when im out and about doing stuff on it? I do often use my Ipad for a good few hours say 7 or 8 when I cant charge it does the HP last say over 7 hours? What happens when you drop it is the HDD as hardy as the solid state memory in the Ipad?

Sorry the warranty I have and the thinness of it as well as it being really tough sold it for me.

Never mind it has lots of fun apps, is very stable, very easy to use and looks nice, customer care on apple products have always been 100% for me as well.

That is why Apple make so much money, they do their market research, they develop hard wearing devices with good support and they are nice to look at. Thats why they sell so many.

I cant see shares going up too much more but they are probably a safer place to put money than most banks to be honest.

As another has said there is a slow backlash growing against apple iphone in particular and possibly some of their other devices.
There have been people here on ph who have said they are replacing their iphones with something else as they have a dislike for them.

I have also spoken to people i know who have iphones and some of said they will not be getting another or will be replacing it with something else as soon as.

I have no idea why the backlash though.

Think it was the same length as an ipad (12 months??) although seeing as its nearly 8 years old is it relevant?? 3g is fine thanks, wife used it whilst in hospital a few months ago to play her facebook flash games, and to use webcam to talk to our son. (all through dongle but again what similar device had 3g 8 years ago, smart arse)

Well for a battery that is (again) nearly EIGHT YEARS OLD it is pretty decent.. 2 and a bit hours, just under 5 when new (8 years ago) although seeing as you can hot swap a battery I guess it could carry on for say as long as it takes an ipad to be sent back to apple and returned with a fresh sealed battery! As for multi touch.. I don't think any user would be jumping the line to "upgrade" to an ipad.. I have it on my laptop and erm well I survived without it for 21 years so..

Mr Dave said:

I would not know sorry I have never dropped it although having dropped a similar non hardy ssd from a second story fire escape that survived just fine, pity the laptop that encased it didn't.

Ipad (1) is .3 of an inch slimmer! great advance in EIGHT YEARS although the mac air is great at x2 less thickness.. but thats a laptop.. Would an ipad survive a typical little toddler using it? My lad uses it to draw on paint and look at cbeebies FLASH site! still works fine. Plus with it costing so little I would not be too narked if it did break as it cost next to nowt really.. (and I could take it apart to replace such things as hd/mem/wifi/cpu or uprade)

Running windows.. don't do "apps" funnily I had a windows desktop years ago, one of the last P4's despite it being left on constantly for days at a time, left on over night seeding torrents for around 2 years I never once had to recover or reformat! pretty stable! (oh it plays news segments on bbcnews site, I had a go of a ipad a few weeks ago, the browser was already on bbcnews but it looked ste tbh it had funny white boxes with little red x's in them and said please update your flash or some such twaddle.. I followed the link it gave and it told me to fk off and laughed at me through its internal mono speaker!

Agreed the icack looks all fancy and complies with all the other drones who sit in starbucks (usually near a plug) but considering you can buy something for a lot less (I over paid they can be had for half) that is EIGHT YEARS OLD then it says a few things!

ps it is full bluetooth I can connect anything! even a ps3 controller if I wanted and file transfers too! although I guess you could stick a cheap bt usb stick into usb slot... or not! maybe you could go on the apple site and by a apple branded mini usb bt stick (thats how they make money too!)

As for the other drone about his ifail4 I don't know I would not wipe my dogs arse with it. I do know I can change my battery, hold to my face and get a signal though.. need an app for that?? Lastly I know that a new all singing all dancing imoan8 will not be out a week after buying the last version.

As for the share prices!! I cannot see them failing (unlike some products) anytime soon with the amount of drones and that clever billionaire. although I would not be taking advice off a person who thinks ifails are a good buy!

Oh and it can multi task as well.. plus lots more than an ifad, all on something EIGHT YEARS OLD..

laughlaugh (As for iste being simple to use maybe that reflects on the user..)

My group of mates tend to err towards the flasher side of phones - not something I understand myself as my phones tend to get broken either through a concrete-interface or rum-interface within a few months of acquiring them, so I stick to second-hand cheapy ones personally! But, there has been a definite trend since the start of the year or so where people's contracts are running out and the IPhones aren't being replaced with another iPhone. Instead, they seem to be being replaced by Blackberry's. Ridiculous seeing as none of them actually use them for work-based purposes, but BB's do look to be the next 'trend' without looking into the figures in-depth. It seems Apple still rule the portable music player market - Ipods of various guises are king and there's nothing else remotely similar. But phones, I think the fad is coming to a close.

RIM (the people behind Blackberry) have just cut 10% of their workforce on sales down 17% with headlines like 'Blackberry fighting for survival'.

The thing that's amazing about Apple's figures is that they aren't suffering, given the age of the iPhone 4 and imminence on the 5 it wouldn't be surprising if they were down, but there is no sign of that happening.

How long does the battery last? Not a fan of Apple, in fact still running a Nokia 6810 because "its a phone and it makes phone calls" - but i was given an ipad and i must admit they are neat as a gadget - useless for anything serious though.

I must be a drone too as i own mostly apple kit.

So guess where i live and what i do from the fact that i own 2 apple computers, an ifail and an ipad

Trust me hating apple kit is far more fashionable then owning it

clapclapclap

I used to be very Anti Apple products, but then I got a job that required me to support both Apple and PC/Windows platforms, it didn't take long to realise what a pile of ste the Windows/PC combination is compared to Apple, what with poor compatibility between hardware and the constant search for drivers that worked and didn't crash the OS every five minutes.

My GF's brother is very anti Apple and regularly builds stonkingly fast PC's, however even he now admits the performance is short term once all the patches/drivers/service packs and other detritus are loaded. In the last year he must have rebuilt his PC at least 6 times (that I know of) in an effort to keep it running sweetly, whilst my Mac just works the same as it always has. Only a matter of time before he leaves the dark side. wink

I had to eat a lot of humble pie when I finally purchased a MAC and found that the only time I touched the MAC was to use it for productive activities rather than rebuilding it.

Of course each to their own, but there is no way I am ever going back to having a PC for own use, unfortunately short sightedness by our Infrastructure Management means I am reminded on a daily basis how crap PC/Windows is.

I'm a converted apple fan. Never saw the point of an iPad. But now I have one I couldn't do without it. It just works so well and is a striking piece of kit. I like things of beauty.
