Sweet Jesus. The guy still thinks he's the solution.

Unbelievable.

Old dictators never die - you have to kill them yourself.

He'll even try to buy the impeachment judges out. Watch this space.

What time do the riots start....?

Hopefully never.

Was it just a semi coup? A pseudo coup? A coup-coup?

WTF is the Military doing?

You have to see it from a Zimbabwean perspective. Mugabe is a symbol, and a generation have grown up knowing only him as President. He has to be edged out. Otherwise there is a risk of violence.

Just a coup-a-soup by the look of it.

Now he's paid all the coup plotters off, he'll probably turn against them - Erdogan stylee. I'd put nothing past the nasty .

He’s got billions of $s (real ones, not Zimbabwean ones) in the bank, is 93, could have his choice of countries to go and live out the rest of his days in yet he’s still clinging to power.

They should drag him by the balls straight to The Hague.

You won’t have been able to spend that since 2009. Zimbabwe no longer runs its own currency

I agree. A significant % of the populace have only known him as leader. Phased (bloodless) transition is better for all.

That is always the best way. Lynching the leader as in Libya or putting them on trial as in Iraq solves nothing and just means wounds take longer to heal

Singapore's a nice place. Why allow a piece of excretia such as Mugabe besmirch it?
He has property there. He has used their healthcare system recently.

Ex dictators need somewhere to go. I was reading an article that described the complexities.

Apparently you can gain kudos for taking one in, as it’s “taking one for the team” in international diplomacy stakes.

He is a nasty man, but he isn’t Pol Pot. Get him away from Zimbabwe and let him die in obscurity far from where he can influence power going forwards.

Yup. If they have personally committed genocide then it is a different kettle of fish. In this case, find a solution acceptable to all.

It’s probably about money as well... I guess he has extracted significant funds over time and wants assurances over continued access to such funds.

Yes, nice chap.

Some of you've clearly forgotten the purge of white farmers he carried out in the early 2000s.

And then went on to declare that the killers should not be prosecuted.

He was also an out and out racist. Just read some of his famous quotes.

I don't think he is a nice chap. I am a pragmatist when it comes to heads of state and would rather focus on the outcome and avoid further suffering.

Yes. Things rarely get better when you execute leaders.

This in bucket loads. I met a Zim couple who used to farm rabbits. They fled after their farm was reclaimed. Both sons were murdered, daughter was raped and murdered; they fled with just the clothes they were wearing. A farmer local to me who had known them for donkeys years put them up. The stories they recounted were pretty horrific.

White farmers with the skills and knowledge to run viable businesses were forced out, farms became unviable, the black people they employed became unemployed. The country became an economic basket case thanks to Mugabe.

Edited to add according to current news feed Mugabe has until midday on monday to resign, otherwise he will be forced out. Thought I'd never see the day.
