Seems to be a nuclear waste storage facility and decommissioning plant, not a nuclear power station:

There seems to be some confusion currently over what it is, the reports I've just read say it was a waste storage facility that xploded and not an actual power plant.

Maybe the technology wasn't at fault here. Maybe some numpty is. Nobody can plan for every eventuality.

Whatever the cause, it won't help the acceptability of nuclear - which I think needs to increase if we're to enjoy little luxuries (like not having a rota to use the lights) into the future.

I was reading, on BBC news of all places, that since the Japanese incident that more people in the UK are in favour of nuclear power (according to a poll).

If they could have done this last week the greens would have had something to say at their conferance.

No doubt the BBC green segment will spin this up to be a nearly disaster and how could we consider them over here.
