No I'm not a tube or train driver and dont know any personally.

Invest in automation then offer them jobs controlling the new driverless trains on minimum wage biggrin

By that logic, do you think that fares will not RISE over the coming years due to these pay rises?

The unions have got LU under their thumb. No-one has the balls and will to take them on. If they go down the automation route, or an alternative source of drivers (say tender out to companies that provide drivers etc.) this would not happen overnight (barriers to entry, time to train etc.), so the unions would strike loads to stop the ideas every getting off the ground, usually on a pretense of "safety" in the hope of winning the support of the left.
