U.S. officials on Tuesday said that they had foiled an elaborate terrorist plot backed by factions of the Iranian government and aimed at assassinating the Saudi ambassador to Washington.

Will the US take action against Iran?

On US soil though - there are plenty of Saudi ambassadors who would be easier to "off" than that one. If the US want to go and bomb the st out of Tehran, this is a bloody good reason for it.

Not sure someone being a Quds member means it is Iran backed, to be honest. The attempt might have nothing whatsoever to do with Quds. It's a bit like a cop doing something criminal, and saying the US has backed criminal stuff because he was a federal employee! More info required, I think.

Well the Saudis and Iranians have been fighting a proxy war for decades now. Currently the action is taking place in the Yemen and this is just a small part of the conflict between the two.

It's a shame the Iranians have such mad leaders because I've always felt they could be our natural allies in the region. They have a long and proud history and at heart, the majority of their citizens share the liberal values most of us do. The Arabs on the other hand.........

Just watched Congressman Poe on Fox News stating this is clearly an act of war.
According to Fox The targets included the Saudi AND Israeli Embassy and as they involved apparrent Bomb plotsthen that would theoretically be acts of war against 3 Governments no?

this could get VERY messy imho!
It's Fox though. All over emotional, frothing children. It's Daily Mail on steriods. biggrin

On top of that, America is bankrupt. No one is going to lend them the money to do any more major buggering about beyond their borders.

And this isn't just another US justification for war such as WMDs in Iraq?

It's not the US who want war the most in this region, it's the Saudis.

US financial TV channels are not talking about this, so it cannot be important smile

wink

But if they are the only channel going to town on the story then surely that implies everyone thinks it's a non starter?

Is Jackson still dead?

Sky political editor has just said that if true this would be one notch below an act of war.

Had the attack happened it would be seen as the first strike in a war.

CNN reporting that it was tied to the highest levels of the Iranian government.

True or not, this is extremely serious.

Surely only serious, (if it came to a war), if itmwas true. Not so serious if false.

Sometimes the US goes to war even if "it" is not true.

That's what I'm worried about. I'm not sure we could stretch to another conflict, especially against a massive standing army.
