I'm only amazed he's managed to stay in power this long.
It's because the socialists before him spent all of Italy's money and opened the floodgates for immigration (At least, this is what I was told by quite a few Italians) - Italy would rather have that clown in than the last lot. Lesser of two evils for the Italian people I guess.chris watton said:

Presumably Berlusconi voters, as immigration has only become an issue in Italy in the years he has been in power... The socialist only had power for 18 months and hardly did anything let alone spend all of Italy money. Edited by Vimto156 on Wednesday 26th October 11:55

I have no idea, personally - I just wrote what I have been told more than once by the Italians I work with.Edited by Vimto156 on Wednesday 26th October 11:55

The thing is that there are lots of old men like Silvio in Italy and lots more that aspire to be like him.I used to work in Italy and most of the senior management of the company I worked at (and others I was in contact with) were like him; wealthy, power hungry, dirty old men who appreciated the finer things in life and saw it as their duty to avoid paying taxes whilst keeping a mistress (or two) on the side.
Anyone that has spent any time in Italy will know at least one 'Silvio' yet despite the traits mentioned above they are usually very likeable characters in their own roguish way.
Stereotype he maybe but stereotypes are there for a a reason.
I'm sure there are less 'Silvios' in the newer generations but these old men would have voted for Berlusconi...
