Louis has made some great programs over the years, and asks questions many people wouldn't. He's done this by gaining the trust of some very oddball people such as Saville.

If you truly believe that, then may I respectfully suggest that you watch some of his other stuff? His recent documentary on mental health and insanity in crimes was top notch. He is empathetic and has a great way of gaining the trust of his interview subjects.

Obscure documentary makers don't generally win BAFTA's or Emmys coffee

Edit - hope I don't need a parrot?

I think it is a very valid documentary and I will watch it. Theroux famously interviewed Savile a few years before the latter died and revealed some insights into Savile's personality that many would probably not have been aware of up until then.

Now, a number of years after Savile's true nature was finally exposed, it is perhaps appropriate that Theroux revisits this territory.

Remember Louis' interview with Paul and Debbie Daniels? Very odd. I'm sure that Debbie wanted a threesome that night....

Is it the BBC being ironic ?
They almost seem to want to cash in with the "previously unseen footage" type label.
And before you lovies all come clambering, Yes I do know who Theroux is and I have seen his documentaries before. I quite like him. I just think this is a little odd.

Why is it odd?

Is it just because it is on BBC and not some other channel?

I agree with Eric. Think it will be interesting (and possibly appalling in equal measure).

How is he obscure? He's made multiple prime time documentaries and won many awards.

The issue is more, "why aren't there more quality documentaries?"

I like him and don't think he is obscure. My point is this dead horse has been flogged and I don't see the merit in it.

Ahh, on that I'd be inclined to agree.

I met him (JS) twice.

Once as a child when my dad told me JS was a bit odd.

Once as an adult where I was left in absolutely no doubt (about 2006)

I watched all his shows religiously never realised anything. Maybe I was a young kid so too naive to know.
Did he seem odd? Well so many celebs at the time were quirky.

You have to wonder is he the sole individual who did this? Are there others who have so far got away width it
