Occupy Wall Street cleared out in New York
Discussion
So the NYC authorities have had enough and the crusties have been moved out. I don't see a comment on PH about it yet, so here is the link to Pravda/ a.k.a the BBC:

Seems to have been effective enough. The media were kept well away from the action , which they did'nt like. There is a lot of shouting and noise but I reckon it will be over soon.
Occupy LSX next?
Having visited the St Pauls site, I hoped to find people with a message I could engage with and understand. I was disappointed to find the usual fringe-of-society hangers-on with an opinion to offer and a chippy demeanour propped up by a large ego. I won't miss them if they are moved on.

About time.
There are about a dozen and a half camped out in Sheffield (Again chosing a religious place of worship, the Cathedral).
From what I gather, they want more equality, less corruption, and world fking peace.
They've no idea on how to achieve (or even move towards) those 'goals', yet it's all the fault of the bankers.
Idle, fking no hopers wanting a bigger share of the pie, but not wanting to work for it.

There was some nobody on R4 this morning saying that there would be an uprising the likes of which had never been seen before, that this would be NYs Tianenmen Square and other rhetoric. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15732661

We shall see, but personally I doubt it.

Even the lefty government of Portland Oregon has pounced upon these leeches.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15732661

If, as is claimed, these people represent the silent majority then in a democracy the "uprising" does not have to be violent. All they need to do is find a political voice, field some MPs at the next elections and next thing you know it will all be over. Goodbye fat bankers and their toadies! And then the tube drivers will go on strike again....
Looks like they might get cleared out from London soon.

Every crusty and lefty gets a stiffy each morning believing that. They couldn't drag their arses down the council depot of a morning if they actually believed that they'd have to live off the fruits of their own labour for the rest of time.We shall see, but personally I doubt it.

No, the revolution fairy is just around the corner, and is going to make things right. so that those who left school at fifteen with no qualifications get the big houses, and those of us who listened to our teachers and did well in life are hanged from lamp posts.
Of course, the idea that things, right now, are very fair would just blow their trotskyite minds.

I dare you to go there and read comments. It's embarrassing.
They're seriously thinking of blocking new york roads and occupying the subway system. They're fking mental if they think that's going to win them any favour with the public. The ACTUAL 99% should be feared and they should be feared by the occupy movement. If they piss them off they'll do much we did when everyone started striking in the 70's. Vote someone in to sort them out.

Whilst I don't believe professional wasters and their like should be given large houses etc just because 'its not fair innit' thats not really what this is all about is it.
The contemptable greed and egregious criminality of a tiny fraction of society, namely those in control (Politicians and financial leaders) has led us to this point. A point at which the real losers in the whole scenario are the general populations of the west, not the people who have sent us to hell in a handbasket. Our glorious leaders and their Banking criminal cohorts have, like one large criminal gang, made sure they're alright thank you very much, yet have the unbelivable nerve to tell us "we're all in this together" (as they sit in their multi million pound mansions or yachts).
People are sick of out of control capitalism, unfetterd greed that fks anything and everything as long as another penny or cent is made, no matter how it gets done, no matter how criminal or negligent the actions behind that profit are. Just look at the scandalous behaviour of Goldmans falsifying infomation when Greece wanted to join the Euro , that news sure went away fast after it came out not so long ago.
A free market is a good thing, those that work hard should be rewarded for it (yes. even bankers) BUT not at the expense of everything else. The last ten years things seem to have become much worse in this country with regard to unfettered greed and irrisponsiblity when chasing profits.
The trouble is when (with the help of the tabloids and the governments) the sheeple say 'its all them greedy bankers innit' they are visulising traders or hedge fund managers and such like, who are just regular people doing jobs, not the real criminals behind all this, and that suits the politicians jsut fine.
The politicians and their criminal mates should be carefull though, they seem to be badly misjudging the mood of the nation, if not the majority of the west on this one.

That's right, there are slaves being traded today, children dying of hunger or thirst all over the third world, unbelievable oppression in China and Cuba, but it's you posting here on the internet who is the ral victim. The contemptable greed and egregious criminality of a tiny fraction of society, namely those in control (Politicians and financial leaders) has led us to this point. How is this victimhood played out, have you had to put up with dial-up internet?
The fact that you live better than royalty did 100 years ago is neither here nor there, of course, you are a victim because someone else has an R8, and you don't, and that's just not fair!
I'm willing to admit that the current situation isn't ideal and yes, change is probably needed. But the OWS movement offer up nothing.
They just shout 'Change!' expecting other people to fill in the details. I've not heard a single coherent argument for what should be changed and how, just that it should be changed. It's a very juvenile form of protest.
Only something like 30% of young people voted last election in the USA.. If they picked a candidate (probably and independent) who they agreed with on policy and voted for him they'd probably be able to get them in the white house.
But they don't. The sit in a park shouting at people and crying at police when they do their policing. It's so boring.
They're just determined to matter.

Fast forward 50 years and it will be remembered by one man. One man who had the courage to do what he thought was right. To stand up in front of believers and non believers to fight for what was right. He will probably utter "I cant believe I did that st all just to get in some chicks pants"
