Our own cars, even if we're on our own, according to the news I just heard (not sure if there's any internet links yet).

Really, hasn't the UK got much bigger problems that need dealing with?

Here's a link.

I don't agree for people on their own in a car but for people in a car with children then it seems fair enough. There are lots of more urgent issues in the world though.

Step too far in my opinion. Sure, ban it in hire cars or pool cars but your own private space? Madness!

I'm a non smoker btw.

I am a smoker and laughed at a comment a guy made on BBC news this morning saying smoking should be banned due to the cost to the NHS. Does he not think that the massive tax on cigarettes actually pays a large chunkof money into the NHS every time a pack is bought? Do fatties pay extra tax on their food to contribute towards their diabetic treatment or gastric bands etc. etc? No they don't so come up with another arguement dhead biggrin

Ridiculous. I smoke but try to be as considerate as possible. I smoke in MY house but not in the room when my daughter comes to stay. I smoke in my car but would never do it when my daughter is in the car. People who smoke in the car with the kids sat in there actually boil my piss.

BUT it is just more nanny state madness that we do not have the money or the resources to police. Judging by the amount of people I see on mobile phones in cars it will not be overly successful either

Slowly but surely edging more and more into our lives. You will always get some moron that will smoke in their car with a child in there, which just isn't right. Some of the crap spouted as an excuse for this ban is actually insulting.

Everyone take a step back... The suggested ban isn't being mooted due to the normal risks of smoking but because (according to reports) some of the worst carcinogens linger in the fabric of the car and can effect innocent parties well after a cigarette has been extinguished.

If you were only killing yourselves and had full control of the vehicle at all times, then fair enough, feel free to smoke in the car.

The BMA are the biggest bunch of bansturbators around. IMO they need to shut their holes and do their job, i.e. fixing sick people. Not try to ban the world into a utopia where nobody gets sick.

Just think smokers - people won't think less of you when you give them a lift and your car doesn't reek of stale cigarettes, you will be able to see through your windscreen again as it will stay nice and clean, and you can re-use the ash tray for other useful little bits like coins etc!

Yes, a ridiculous proposition really!

BMA stands for "Ban Mostly Anything".

Ignore them.

I don't give a feck what people think about me, I can actually see through my windscreen and I have other cubby holes to put money in.

The most annoying thing from my point of view is the hypocrisy of the politicians

If smoking is so bad and costs us so much money in healthcare, the same as alcohol, then ban them and make them illegal drugs

Let's see how the tax take decreases and the deficit grows as the tax paid on these more than funds the NHS.

If cigarettes are such a health issue, they should be banned - in much the same way as they ban heroin, cocaine etc.

Very odd two tier system for 'drugs' and 'cigs an alcohol'. I don't understand the distinction - other than historic attitudes....

The BMA should be banned.

I will continue to smoke in my car when i am on my lonesome. If they don't like it, i will happily stub my fag in their faces.

As for selling the car afterwards... Have you not used a hoover and cleaning products on your car before? My old motor was like brand new after cleaning it before it was sold after 5 years of smoking.

If it stops the moronic bds flicking butts into the road as if it were an ashtray or blowing their stinking smoke out of the window right into my car or its vent system when in traffic, then it's a damn good thing IMO.

But the people selfish enough to do that will ignore the ban anyway - I suspect that the majority of considerate smokers, who would, however reluctantly abide by the ban, do not throw their stubs out of the car window. When I smiked, I used to but the end out and put it back into the packet, and empty the packet once a bin was spotted. Am sure I'm not the only one who does/did this.

It takes a hell of a lot more than that. I can guarantee that a non-smoker would not have described your car as brand new.

I was talking to a chap who had just acquired a new (to him) car. It had had the deep-clean treatment, but, i was stood outside talking to my pal who was sat inside the car, and I could smell the the tobacco wafting out through the open window.

The ban will come in eventually. Debating it will only hold the process up and waste more money. Might as well get it over with.

But you don't object to the exhaust fumes from other cars invading your vent system whilst in traffic?

Would you like to come back with a sensible response.

I gave up smoking 2 years ago so it won't really effect me but,

why can't people just leave everyone alone to get on with their fking lives without being swamped by rediculous legislation?!?!?
