Anyone who wants to listen to a nice politically neutral radio play....
...needs to avoid today's Radio 4 offering (Me and Robin Hood, aired at 1415) like the plague.
It was like a party political broadcast for the Labour Party.
And it was a bit st, to boot.
I was in the car on the M40 and caught this. Basically a critique of privatisation under Thatcher and an argument for re-nationalisation. (IE Labour policy)...needs to avoid today's Radio 4 offering (Me and Robin Hood, aired at 1415) like the plague.

"But now, the bankers own "our story" and we don't get to tell it"
Childish and unsubtle....
This is an interesting interview with ex-BBC journo Robin Aitkin who's written a book about his ex-employers called 'The Noble Liar'.

I caught a programme called Beyond Today on Friday evening. I think they skirted the idea of impartiality by reporting it as a podcast made in conjunction with the New York Times. It was painful.
I listened to the whole thing while driving, with the sort of morbid fascination that would compel me to watch a Hitler speech or a Soviet propaganda video.
The first half was a sort of creation myth, complete with out of context quotes from Churchill, about how the European Union was a great leap forward from a dark age of nationalism and war into a bright present of liberal democracy and prosperity, followed by a brief lament about how the global financial crisis and the migration crisis had, unfortunately, given rise to "populism." It did not, as far as I can remember, even entertain the possibility that the EUs shambolic and cynical handling of these crises had contributed.
The second half was possibly even more nauseating. Taking every opportunity to show off her French, the presenter went to a yellow vest protest in France and produced 30 minutes of patronising drivel about how these poor, uneducated peasants were blaming the saviour for their problems.
It ended with the bitter warning that these evil populists were now committing a crime against democracy, not by leaving the EU as Britain had attempted but by (horror!) attempting to change it from within. Winning elections and responding to the public, to undermine democracy. The bds.
It was unreal. It is worth digging the programme out if you have iPlayer or something as a case study in the sort of ste they churn out.

Harmless sounding little programme about musicians moving to the country called "Weird Music Britain" or some such on R4 at 4pm today.
Managed to get subtle and less subtle digs in at the Tories, Brexit, Trump, all viewed through a prism of the indigenous country folk being stupid and racist.
One interviewee's partner was scared to reveal his Jewish surname in rural Leicestershire, apparently.

Having watched quite a bit of news programmes over the last few days can I ask just why every single news person hates Boris Johnson quite so much and why the pretence of even just being civil to Boris( or even his fathe)r has now completely disappeared?
From Sky to ITV to BBC to Channel 4 on every news programme ( apart from This Week) every reporter has been vicious in their depictions of Boris's character both to his face, when doing pieces to camera and just now on Newsnight Emily " I'm an anorexic" even slagged Boris off to his father.
Even if my son was as big a prat as Boris is apt to be, Emily, had she talked about my son like that, would have been on the receiving end of some interesting language of my own. Obviously Johnson senior is made of calmer stuff then I.
Since when has it been ok for all journalists ( it seems) to lose all impartiality and declare open season on Boris ?
Mind you one thing the British people do not appreciate is bullying and unfair treatment. All this slagging off of Boris may in fact bring out the protective nature of the British people. He is going to win anyway looking at conservative members polling.
This is probably how " fake news"gains credence. Once the impartiality of the press becomes apparent public confidence in them leaches away.
Thats probably why the only journalist I trust is Andrew Neil as he eviscerates every politician with unfailing politeness no matter what the colour of their rosette.
Cheers,
Tony

BBC = Boris Bad Constantly.....they really have given up all pretence now.
The BBC have/Are shooting themselves in the foot, idiots.
I'd never taken much notice of Rory Stewart until yesterday, the Today Programme were really bigging him up as a candidate to "stop Boris" with a slightly excited voice, as if we all agreed that was required. "He's a remainer you know!"The BBC have/Are shooting themselves in the foot, idiots.

I just caught a snippet of the second Stewart interview in two days on 'Today' on Radio 4, and Mishal Hussein (I think it was) held a Rory love-in fest interview from the bit I heard. He's looking like a Tory Corbyn.
And I just watched a few minutes of BBC breakfast. The clip showed that after the BBC debate thing last night, the reporter basically said to Stewart something along the lines of "You weren't very good tonight were you?". Edited by motco on Wednesday 19th June 07:52
